Hi all....
My bike will need both wheels removed for up to maybe 10 days (hopefully less than a week)..
Is there a safe way I can leave the bike wheel less for that amount of time?
I have already thought about locking the main stand forwards with a strap..
I also considered putting both axles back in place and maybe a axle stand under each to prevent rocking.
Any thoughts please ?
S.
Paddock Stand and Headstock Stand - only way IMO. Bike-it do a good headstock and paddock stand ((you'll need a 23mm pin for the headstock), or use an ABBA Stand with the additional Stand to lift the front wheel
Thanks Dave...
are you now in Oz ?
Yep! Currently at Ayers Rock, arrived late 5his afternoon, just 8n t8me for the sunset.....awesome !
Wow you are lucky....
sounds excellent...
Bloody warm though !!
I have used hydraulic jack under engine and main stand secured with a rope or a strap. No problems.

9.30 at night here and still 27C. Good old aircon!
if you only have the bikes main stand then on that and an axle stands under each side for extra safety a rope around each end over the handlebars and over a support in the roof if you can .
removing the mudguard means you only need to lift the front wheel a few mm(5mm) to give the clearance you'll need to remove it .
For me no problem :hat:

Thanks for that..
I have neither a garage nor a hydraulic lift..
It may be safer if I take 1 wheel at a time to be powder coated...
if nothing else then use centre stand and some wood under the front of the collector box and motor.
id get both wherls done together or you might get a miss match in the colour/finish if different batches of powder have to be used.
like i said your front wheel only needs to be a few mm off the ground .
just a bit of care and time and you'll be fine.
I did what Seth said last year took both wheels of ,I got a trolley jack and block of wood under the main collector box , and the front after I took the wheel out I put a big block of wood ,under the front forks just be on the safe side ,and that was lik that for six ish weeks :onya:
As Seth said, color mismatch is possible when doing the wheels separably.

Am I correct in that with both wheels removed the bike is still nose heavy when on the centre stand ??
yes its front heavy on the stand not much but enough with or without wheels.
what i do is
get someone to push down the rear of the bike its not hard/very heavy(balance is to the front but not loads) till the front wheel is off the ground prop the front of the bike under collector/engine sump edges / frame rails till the front wheel is 5mm off the ground
then remove rear wheel .
then remove front mudguard brakes and then wheel.
refit in the reverse order
Invest in a pair of paddock stands, or a paddock stand and one that lifts the head stock. 2 cheap"ish" stands were $100 (£58 the pair) and are fine for non-profesionals use. Even the Aldi ones are OK after years under GSX's, Busa's and B-Kings.
Once again thanks Tony..
What a brilliant workshop you have..
I am very jealous...
The "fun" I could have with a workshop like that.....
I am GREEN

Thanks.
The cheapo stands aren't perfect, I prefer my one piece ones and the cheap ones
are a little wide to fit inside my hydraulic benches but as you can see they have
their uses and I'd be happy to buy them again.
I've pulled out plenty of front ends to do head bearings etc without pro-gear,
just haven't done the rear at the same time, but it should be do-able.
I highly recommend the abba stand with the front wheel adaptor - rock solid and stable
sample photo as didnt take any while my bike was up on it
Thanks Del...
I have bitten the bullet and ordered BOTH the Abba Super bike Stand and also the front wheel lift. Oh and yes I did order the relevant kit for the GSX1400.
Thanks again to all who responded and advised..
I had planned some right Heath Robinson methods of suspending the bike..
But my bike is kept outdoors on my patio area and we have had strong winds lately.
I am not prepared to see her sprawled nose first onto the concrete when i come home from work.
I will use chocks / axle stands in conjunction with the Abba stand set up to make sure she cannot move at all.
Thanks again,
Simon
Just looking at some of the heavy artillery on display in that shot Tony........ umm is that black and yellow socket set AF, metric or......Whitworth ? :stir:

I've heard some good feed back about the Abba stands.
Several folk who have them are very happy.
I've always been unsure as I play with several different bikes and never know
what's turning up or when. If I had one or two bikes and only played with them
I'd consider one. I do like my lift benches, somewhere to work, but down parts
and tools etc, as a bike shop uses, but the ABBA stands are great if you have
limited space. To me its not good or bad, just which type suits your needs.
I only use the scissor lift these day as my back is stuffed. When I want front, back or both ends up I use this with a couple of slings even made a spreader bar.
Stop showing off Irish
I only have a double garage in a suburban culdesack for 4 cars and my bike
Don't worry though, my car & bike are in the garage :boogie:

I love their music - fav is Dancing queen and Mama Mia :smile2:
i think your bike lift wins Irish. amazing for a home shed. sure beats my centrestand and a jack under front. it does work fine but.
I'm a big fan of bike benches.
If you can find the room they are worth every penny.
People have said to me they have no room for a lift in their garage yet they park the bike in there. I said park the bike on the lift not much difference in space used, they then bought one.
