Thinking of doing my forks, read somewhere about "helicopter tape". Saw it for sale on e-bay (don't quote me) for about £10 per metre if you are prepared to fit it yourself.

Even cheaper than I said, £3.79 for 3 metres. I have never used this so wait to see what others say about it.

Helicopter tape is top stuff, 3M be8ng one of the best providers. I put 3M helicopter tape on the leading edge of my fork sliders when I got my K7 new and when I sold it 9 years later they were still like new underneath, and the tape hadn't yellowed or peeled.
Buy and fit helicopter tape with confidence. Quite a few on here have it fitted and will say the same.

I have to say I DO like this idea..
I havent heard of it before so thanks for the heads up..

Dave, I assume the 50mm width is the one to go for?
There are 2 widths.. 25mm and 50mm..

50mm is correct speedy, I've done this,
There is a knack to it but easy enough if you take your time, similar to wallpaper 😀

Yep 50mm is the one - will fit down leading edge and around "outside". You don't need it at the rear of the slider, as no stones hit there.

Just for info Simon, helicopter tape is what they put on the leading edges of helicopter blades. It's also the plastic looking tape you find across car door sills - so stops wear, scratches etc to paintwork and certainly stops stone chips to the sliders. So has a multitude of uses, esp in areas prone to wear and scratching. I also put a small length on the frame tubing about the front footrests as the paint there can wear from bike boots where you brake/change gear.

Thanks for your replies..

Logic would say that it would pay to get the fork leg spotless and maybe then wiped over with say brake cleaner so that the "helicopter tape" sticks properly.

My fork legs have been powder coated Satin Black but I can see 1 or 2 stone dings that have gone to silver. I will touch those in then apply the tape after they have dried.

Thanks again.

S.

I've fully wrapped a pair of GSX-R USD forks in the past. It's fiddly, but the end result was worth the hassle.
I think due to the various castings and brackets on GSX14 forks they would be near enough impossible to do.. :confused1:
