Hi everyone.
Wondering if anyone has had any issues with their bike just cutting out??
I've just got a 2010 model and had my first ride, so just riding down a road, got to an intersection and the lights turned green so no need to slow down but the bike just cut out.
I was lucky as not much trafic so I could coast to the curb.
Pressed the starter and nothing
Switched her off and back on and she fired strait up.
Rode 20 mins home and she was fine.
2/3'rds tank of fuel, no spluttering when she cut out.
Any ideas???
Cheers Dave
Hi Dave. I have a similar 2010 bike. I know there are a few sensors around the bike, side stand and clutch are just two I know of that have caught me out but never when moving. I'm sure others will be along with far more knowledge to point you in the right direction.
As this is your first post, just wanna say hi and welcome. There are probably six of us Kiwi's on here.
You should introduce yourself in "Intro's", photo of your bike is a must. Good luck with your bike issue.
Check the slack in your throttle cables and if necessary adjust them. I had this happen on my K7 sometimes that as I throttled off and came to a standstill, the bike cut out. Instructions on how to check and adjust throttle cable slack are in the owners handbook, which, if you don't have 9ne, can be downloaded from the Download section on here (adjustment process is the same for all models)
didnt know there were 2010 models, thought 2008 was last. learn something everyday. welcome mate. as far as cutting out, does it idle at 1100 revs? mine got a bit slower once, yep it cut out, wasnt quite up to temp but fast idle was over. it just stopped. most basic advice to a new gsx owner, first adjusts you must do. idle speed at 1100, throttle cables adjust, not sure what book says, as tight as you can without affecting idle when bars turned lock to lock. adjust tps, i know its written a lot, thats because it makes it nice. later on, block off the pairs, just a marble in its intake hose. can go with plates etc if you want, all does same job. will ride sweet after those cheap n easy things. actually free. ride on mate, youll be glad you adjusted the basics.
@grog ...... mine was first registered in Jan10, am told it was a shop demo bike so may have been clocking a few kms on a dealer plate.
Hi,
Tnx for the replies, I will follow you guys recommendations and see where that takes me, it does rev a little lower on tickover than 1100 so will adjust that up and see about the slack on the throttle cables.
Happy riding guys
Cheers Dave

Hi, Tnx for the info, yeh its an 08 but registered in 2010, from what I know there was a stock pile of the bikes that came into NZ and slowly they have been registered by the dealers, but the model is the 08.
Mine had a habit of cutting out as I changed down and for some reason it would often do it on the approach to a roundabout and I can tell you that trying to negotiate one of those just coasting with a dead engine is no fun! Mine would normally restart on the button easy enough though and it was quite simply the tickover was just ever so slightly below 1100.
