Title: indicator connector plug
Post by: Speedy1959 on Thursday, 12 October 2017, 04:42 AM
Hi all.
I am replacing the none standard indicators with the standard Suzuki ones.
The problem is that my none standard ones have been fitted with bullet connectors.
The Suzuki ones I have on order come with little connector plugs.
I assume that the harness side plug isnt available separately?
If not then are bullet connectors an acceptable way of connecting them ?

Thanks in advance,

S.

I see no problem using the bullet type connectors.

Not for the loomthat I'm aware of. Unfortunately it probably means having to connect via bullets as you say.

However, do have a look down this site https://www.corsa-technic.com/category.php?category_id=125 as often they do matching halves for motorcycle connector blocks, so you may be lucky?

On some in the past I have chopped the plugs off original indicators and fitted them to the new one so they are plug and play.

Others I have chopped the mismatching plugs off and fitted universal bullet types.

Both ways work fine.

I like the small connectors that can be threaded through a washer or nut when I'm fitting or removing them on some bikes. I do have some nice larger plugs but they don't allow this. I have to thread the wires though and add the plugs after bolting them up.

Thank you all for your excellent replies.

Probably a dweeboidal question but are there differing sizes of bullet connector?
If so errr what size is recommended ?

WRONG CONNECTORS !!!!!!!

Seth - I thought these originally, however, its the plugs on the LOOM (Harness side plug) that the indicator plugs on the new indicators plug into that I understand Speedy is looking for.

The plugs in your link are the ones that fit on the indicator side (not the harness / loom) so will be of no use (as they will be exactly the same as the plugs on the new (original) indicators he has ordered.

Bloody hell.
I've ordered them....
I will see if I can cancel the order.
Thanks gsxbarmy for pointing this out.
You are correct in that the harness side now has bullet connectors and NOT the original plug.

Thanks again

If you find the plugs that go on the wiring harness, you will still have to get the tools to install them correctly.

Stupid person who replaced the original harness connectors with the bullet type. Correct adapter cables can be found at every corner (Like the one Barmy Seth posted). The harness ones I have not found. They do exist somewhere. If you insist to put the originals in, you may have to make calls to connector suppliers.

The bullet connectors will be fine though. Some electrical tape around them will keep the moisture out. Maybe the plastic cover is shrinkable by heat or apply shrink-tubing if you don't want to use electrical tape.

Hi Seth...
I appreciate your help mate so dont worry.
Its me just trying to keep itall original and unbodged!
Its a pity the previous owner didnt used the connector you pointed out.
If it really comes to it I shall just have to use bullet connectors.
Thanks again for your help mate.

Here ya go Speedy, (and any other members) a list to as many connectors of various shapes & sizes as you could ever want.

I believe the one for the loom is about 3/4 way down the page, orange (yeah I know) and has part number HB050-2P, cost a couple of dollars each.

Dave will know how to set that up Seth, I'd assume it's just a matter of saving the link under a new post / section.

Once you get your Indicators Speedy, see if you can find a matching loom plug on this site
https://www.corsa-technic.com/category.php?category_id=125

As I mentioned earlier, these guys often have matching plugs for most Japanese bike connectors

Thanks gsxbarmy..
I suppose it wont exactly bankrupt me if I order 5 of both sorts (1 extra for any mishaps fitting them).

Thanks again everyone who helped me with this problem...

Mr Barmy... Can I assume that you too would not be totally happy with a bullet connector fix?

I have no issue with the bullet connector fix Speedy, but given you are looking to try to get yours back as much as possible to standard, then from my point of view, the bullet connector is a good solution, but if there is something better than I think it worth exploring before making a final decision. And plugs are neater and easier than bullet connectors after all....

The PO of my 14 "insisted" on the standard connectors. So he just cut the wire of the original and the replacement indicators. He then  twisted the wires together and secured them with duct tape  :rofl2: To each his own  :whistling:
