Title: Why does my clock keep resting or is it something else
Post by: Mrg on Monday, 09 October 2017, 05:39 AM
So new battery
Checked its charging  yep ok and volts in and out good
So I've reset the time on the clock a few time this week and still I come to the bike after use or a days rest off it .and only to find that the time has dropped off the clock

It's like the battery keeps disconnecting by its self

And another little thing that has popped up that it can take a few cranks over to start and other times it starts ok no problem

So is this starter motor or ecu I am lost on this one  cheers guys any in put will help  :onya:

only thing i can think of is to check the frame and engine earth's as i had a similar problem and that's what it turned out to be on my bike a couple of years ago.
good luck hope others can offer more ideas

no worries buddy
it was the small.lead that is part of the main earth from the rear of the engine that caused my fault .
seams all the other earths go via these to leads so check all the connectors and connections.
hopefully it helps

I'd agree with Seth - and if that is not it, get the battery checked out. Another member on here fitted a new battery and had a similar issue, turned out to be a faulty battery in the end.

Definitely worth checking over the connector blocks all over for corrosion

Wel update time
Had all the blocked connections checked and cleaned with contact cleaner took apart and cleaned
Then the earths to the bike from the battery to the engine  , checked all the fuses and cleaned the whole fuse box and all new one in just in case .checked the battery terminals and retired them just in case ,
Reset the clock and it's still holding the time as from 2230 ,it was reset at 1000 today
So we will see in the morning guys  thanks for the great advice :onya:

Hi guys
Well I've checked the bike this morning and well well put the key in and hey the bloodily clock said the right time so took it for a spin and still all ok on the clock. Bike started all ok all day and even washed and polished the bike and still all ok 😌 and yes the time is still ok so in one off the checks I did and the advice given from my fellow 1402 family all is well so
Take a bow 🙇 to my friends that gave me words of wisdom  I thank you 😊   :onya:  the beers are on me

You may even find other things are better now too.. Charging system, starting in the cold, lights.. all of them.. All of these things can be affected by a dodgy earth.
