I need an opinion. Is it possible to mount paddock stand bobbins on place where lower end of rear shock is mounted? I measured cca 2 cm from top of the bolt to original exhaust and cca 3 cm from swingarm to exhaust, so in theory there will be space for bobbins? Will it hold the weight of bike or should I forget this mod? ??? Making higher stand is not a problem...
it might but all the load of the bike is supposed to go down through that bracket not up so not sure how strong it would be in that direction.
I would say it will work perfectly. The bolt on a bobbin is usually an M6, those bolts are M8 I believe. As seth says the weight is going the wrong way but it's it will only be taking the weight of the wheel and half the swing arm so should be fine.
Whilst I totally agree with the weight "issue" (as mentioned by seth) - was just wondering about clearance with either pannier rails on or the actual exhausts themselves - on full rear suspension compression, would the bobbins hit the bottom of the exhaust??
A alternative option (IMO) would be to get some suitably thick threaded rod, pass it through the rear axle bolt and add bobbins to each end. That would have 2 benefits - would act as crash bobbins to protect the swing arm in the event of an accident and act as bobbins for fitting a rear stand to - and be stronger to boot (with no worries about strains on suspension joints etc)
Spindle bobbins have been around quite a while.
They aren't very popular.
They either stop or complicate chain adjustment,
and stop you removing the rear wheel.

they can also be removed in about 2 minutes. replaced in 5 minutes. no prob for me.
I never really saw the need for bobbins on my 1400.
I use them on my Busa and B-King, but I have 4 (I think) bikes without them.
Never had any problems. I use stands that lift under the arm.
Easy enough to use and bikes are stable enough to store or work on.
Never used bobbins on mine and often have 1 or both wheels out.

To me, having paddock stand bobbins that you need to remove to adjust the chain or remove the rear wheel defeats the point in having them.
Having to remove them to do the jobs where you need them?

The clearance between exhaust and shock bracket is about 3 cm on each side so there will be space for some custom
bobbins. The weight of the bike is also transfered on shocks, not only on the brackets. Maybe it could work :whatever:
Just sold a GSX 1400 swing arm with blocks welded underneath, tapped M10, worked a treat but probably wouldn't use a smaller thread due to the weight of the bike though.

I like that set up looks properly thought out to deal with the weights involved and practicalities in use.
