Title: Tank removal
Post by: Speedy1959 on Sunday, 24 September 2017, 03:48 PM
Hi All,

Maybe its a stupid question but here goes..
I removed the 2 bolts at the rear of the tank (Checking air filter had actually been replaced as promised by the dealer)..
I swiveled the tank up at the rear and chocked it in that position using a piece of 2" x 1" piece of wood across the frame rails.
Whilst the tank was elevated I looked under it but could not see obvious ways of removing fuel lines / electrical..
I did see one obvious electrical connector near the left side panel that was easy enough to disconnect.

On a previous bike (Yamaha) the fuel lines were on a sort of snap connector..

So please can anyone provide a detail description / photos of the process?
The manual just says "Remove the fuel tank"

Thanks in advance,

S.

Every time you remove the GSX1400 tank,
have a smug grin on you face and think to yourself...
"Thank god I'm not doing its on a stupid B-King"

:happy1:

There is a knack to getting the fuel line off, I've found it pretty easy to push in the inner clip from both sides and slide the connector off. Fit the connector back on then slip in the inner lock making sure that both sides are locked in.

You can pivot the tank around if you just need access to under the tank and rest it on a towel or blanket where the seat normally is.

Everything is easier is the tank is not full.

The manual recommends the use of a tank stay which might be handy to make, I've only found half a picture of one.
