Title: New toy today...
Post by: Tony Nitrous on Friday, 22 September 2017, 04:20 PM
Well that's my "Bike Fund" account empty again.
New bikes going to have to be next year now.

Brand spankin!  Very nice Tony!  Now you get to go customising it - mags & fat tyres first, then a possum tail flying from the top of the aerial.

Had 11K's on the clock when I picked it up,
I'm up the 13K's, now...

Standard 2.7 manual / petrol Toyota Workmate.

I added / ordered a longer wider tray, Heavy duty tow bar,
tinted windows, and a rear window guard.

Even the base model comes with touch screen audio / hands free,
cruise control, hill start, etc etc.

At work we supply almost all the Toyota dealers with vehicles in NSW and Qld
and a few other states so I got a very generous discount.

EDIT:

I had the money for a new bike, but I'm in the middle of doing up a house
and want to do more with buying / selling old Suzuki's and parts, and hopefully
will be going to the drags more seriously in the new year (with a bike trailer).

We love a very generous discount!  Surprised you went for a petrol over a diesel though.

I did seriously look at the diesels.

Petrol version was cheaper.

Its not a main car and won't get huge mileage.

I drive hundreds of HiLux workmates back to back and the petrol is a smoother motor and feels less agricultural.

If I was cashed up or going 4x4 I'd probably go diesel but I have other things I'm after. This was always going to be a budget vehicle.

Yes 'smoother & less agricultural', nicely put.  If it's not going to get the high miles etc, yep, good selection - agreed.

well done Tony, great utes. had a few hilux, new model is brilliant. comfy and handle perfectly. i spend all day driving them. my 1983, my first, did just over 600 th ks. my last was 2010, 2.7 petrol, 200 th, no probs ever, axle seal leaked, thats all. my new one is same as yours except 2.4 diesel. had it 15 months, just clicked over 45 th ks. great ute. bit more grunt than petrol, bit easier on fuel. totally not agricultural, excellent motor. was a toss up between motors. dont care either way, both good. a great choice youve chosen.

I like hearing about this sort of stuff, amazing alright.
Long hot running & frequent oil changes seem to give exceptional life expectancy over a car that's just round town, short runs & stop / start cold running.

I find the petrol smoother and more defined.

The Fords are similar, the 3.2 diesel Ranger has a strong motor,
it has all the numbers and works hard, but the 2.2 diesel Ranger
is a nicer drivers engine and just feels less harsh.

I like diesels, I drive a lot of SQ7's and love them,
but the base model diesel in the workmate wasn't for me.
Just personal taste.

Tony, I have driven diesels in the UK they seem to be quieter and smoother there.

Talking of diesels, there was a diesel VW in Woolworths car park a couple of weeks back with one of these stickers, I had to smile....

Woolworths in Australia is very similar to Tesco's in the UK.
90% fruit and veg and other foods, and some household goods or consumables.

They use the same name and a similar logo but I don't think there's any connection to the UK version.

There's a 1992 Volvo 740 round here that was bought brand new to be used as a taxi, the same guy still owns it and although he's semi retired now he still works it as a taxi! I don't know how many miles it has on the clock now but it passed the million mark a few years ago and is allegedly still running the original old redblock engine!
