Title: A bit of fun.....
Post by: gsxbarmy on Tuesday, 15 August 2017, 12:16 AM
If money and availability were no object, and you could choose from any classic road bike (past or present) - what would be the 10 machines you'd be drooling over in your garage over all others?

Mine would be

1. Kawasaki Z900 Z1A
2. Honda CB750 K1
3. Laverda Jota
4. Ducati Darmah 900
5. Brough Superior
6. Vincent Black Shadow
7. Triumph Trident
8. Suzuki GT750A
9. Kawasaki 750H2A Triple
10. Kawasaki H2R

Nice collection.  :)

Could add a Honda CBX or Kawasaki Z1300 and H1 in there.
If you want to throw a few sports bikes into the mix then RC30, RC45 and that super expensive Ducatti Panigalle superleggera thingy.

My 89yo Neighbours', 85yo brother has a collection of classics and still races some of them. He has a story about every one of them and they all run.

In no particular order -

1. Honda CB750 K1
2. Kawasaki Z900
3. Benelli 900 Sei
4. Honda CBX 1000
5. Suzuki GT750A
6. Kawasaki Z1300
7. Yamaha FJ1200
8. Suzuki GT380
9. GSX1400
10. BSA 250 C15 (cos my Dad had one for years in the 60s and early 70s and it got me into bikes)

Sad that my Pan European can't make it into the list but for long distance touring with the other half and loads of luggage I still rate it.

Hmm. I'd have to add lights to it then LOL. But yes you are right (dammit)

Apart from the obvious GSX1400...

In no particular order:

1) Suzuki GSX1000 Katana
2) Honda CB1100R
3) Suzuki X7
4) Honda CBX550
5) Suzuki GSX1100ES
6) GSX550
7) RD350YPVS
8) Triumph Thruxton
9) Suzuki GT750
10) Kawasaki Z1100R/ZRX1200

An eclectic mix you will agree - a few I once owned and subsequently sold. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

4. Guzzi Le Mans
5. Benelli 900Sei
6. Honda 400/4
7. Norton Commando 750 Fastback
8. Moto Morini 3 1/2

Well, most of the active members are probably Grandads - an I guess it shows.  I have 11 grandkids myself, how many others got then?

I know an Aussie guy with one, and a streetfighter'd one in the UK.
Really interesting and well done bike but the Watercooled GSXR engine isn't that special. It not having the older oilcooled 11 or the Watercooled Busa lump wouldn't put it on my wish list.

My list changes all the time.
Bikes like the CBX1000 and Z1300 I used to drool over as a kid don't do anything for me now and probably weren't that great in their day other than the extra pots. Bimota has been mentioned but the better ones never got my favourite engines, oilcooled 11 or Watercooled 13. Had some Honda's and Yam's but not seen or ridden anything I'd drool over, had a play with a Stan Stephens RD500, fun, but not anything I'd want to own.

1: GSX1100ET
2: GSX1100"SD" Katana but MUST be an SD
3: 1999 Copper / Gold Gen-1 original unrestricted Hayabusa
4: White / Blue stripes Australian last of the GSX1400's
5: Z1R-TC
6: Z(Gpz)750 Turbo
7: 1986 GSXR1100G
8: 1989 GSXR1100K
9: Z1100R Lawson Rep
10: Kawasaki Z2 750 rarer version on the Z1

11: (My reserve pick) The original naked Bandit 1200.

12: (my Classic but not production 2-stroke pick) a 350-Yammagamma. Suzuki RG250 with a Yamaha LC350 motor, with a Banshee top end... LOL

13: (my still on sale and available new pick) H2 or H2R.
There's one R already been road registered and a 2nd one being done.
Not sure I'd get away with that in AU though !

Tony , i agree, busa or older gsx motor more appealing to me also. 1993 or so i saw one of these bikes at service station. looked so good, even though not a fan of external frame spars? it just sat low, carbon stuff and nice paint. beautiful. i waited n watched. ol mate came out, pushed off its centrestand, just sat perfectly. i waited for the v twin motor to start. next thing this thing barked into life, no ducati motor, didnt sound like a honda. very cammy either suzi or kawa . he took off at a very quick rate. sounded superb. i loved it. found out its heritage later on, couldnt just google then. always liked, left an impression. i know nothing about its motor but sure sounded good. 146 bhp cant be all bad.

I did a total rebuild on a 79 X7 a few years ago, didn't like it so got shot of it to a guy who offered £600.00 & it was gone.
Only recently found that is was worth a bit more. :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
