aka "being nice doesn't pay"
My missus is a big LOTR fan and I managed to buy some good 2nd hand books of maps of middle earth etc (used once by a small group of Hobbits evidently..)
Anyway I had to go somewhere unfamiliar to pick them up and managed to drop the bike while rolling back out of their driveway (had to brake suddenly for a car that shot out of a side street). Anyway, I dropped the damn thing.... :lowside: :embarassed: and landed on my shoulder. Ouch !
Couldn't pick it up by myself as there was dirt / gravel so my feet couldn't get traction to push it up (yes I was using the correct technique). Anyway I got it back on its wheels with the help of a school kid there (Nice bike he reckons - good taste that kid!).
Rode home without any drama aside from extreme pain in my shoulder. I have most of a full range of movement (not too keen to test the extremes as pain becomes a bit much). Dropped into the chemist for some codeine on the way home... had two tabs now gotta wait another 3 1/2 hours.for the next lot...
Will see how I get on tomorrow.... I think I'll be catching the train in to work.
Damage?
Shoulder - to be determined, hopefully just will be bruising / inflamation and time will heal it.
Bike - slight dent in front of exhaust (the steel ring/bracket thing at the front of the carbon fibre can), broken front indicator (fortunately I have some new ones I hadn't got around to fitting yet!) some paint off the top of the RHS engine casing... and nothing else as far as I can tell. Bit of luck there.
Pride - Extreme Damage. :embarrassed:
My missus has no sympathy at all - calls me a walking disaster area, tells me I should take the bus everywhere in future instead of riding... :deadhorse:
Ah well, shit happens I suppose.
Damn, that sucks mate & hope the shoulder is ok. As for the unsympathetic wife
Bugger. Good news is your pride will buff out! ;)
Sorry to read about your off Mike. A real bummer. Hope you & the bike both heal quickly. Mrs will get over it, probably just worried for ya.
that is such bad luck. it always happens so un expectedly. my last 2 did. once was talking while pulling up, other was stupidity. hop shoulder comes good. neurofen a good friend.
That's bad luck, shoulder could take a while as old age slows the healing process. :stir: :whistling:
I think the Impaler would be a bit younger than a lot of us, I'd guess he's still in his 40's - early ones too.
@VladTepes
Next time the misses asked you to through a leg  ...
Tell her that's a great idea and throw a leg over the bike and head out. :onya:
Unlucky Mike - but in all honesty go get your shoulder seen to. When I "rolled over" with my 14, I had a "slight ache" in my shoulder and elbow - so thought pulled muscle. Left it for a few weeks, thought it would go away, but no, it persisted and I found I had restricted movement. Went to the doctors and apparently its what they call golfers elbow and shoulder as I had pulled / stretched all the ligaments from my elbow through my shoulder up to my neck where I had tried to hold the 14 up. 18 months on and am just recovering, still some pain - reason its taking so long is that I waited too long before seeing a doctor.
Just saying. Get it checked out buddy.
Bugger thats bad Luck :bugga:
So when you decide to visit Hobbiton give me a call. We live not far away.
Sorry about your whoops. Hope all is well soon.

@VladTepes
Was 47 on 4 August.
Ouch!
Hope the shoulder heals, I could tell you a few things about operations and shoulders.....the rest is just metal (I know its special metal!) and can be repaired.

The Hobbit habitats are in an area of Castle Hill somewhere. (about an hour from home) There's a an outfit that does LotR tours out to it. They got a couple of 6wd (modified) Land Cruisers that do it.
Good advice from Barmy (unusual I know :stir:)... we don't heal so well past 40... but we all think we do....

They have Hobbit tours in Matamata..... they have a whole tourist industry built around it. Often see coach loads of Chinese tourists there.
I know of someone who was a Hobbit in the movies....... dont think she needed much make up either !! :rofl2:
The filming must have been in lots of locations across NZ, so everyone can get a crack at the spin off. Good on ya PJ.
Did you give her the books to calm her down?
Good luck.
This happened yesterday - 13 august to my dad: the two of us went to a small Dutch island called Texel to celebrate his 70th birthday on a tour. Me on the 14, he on his Gl1500/6. On the way back, his front wheel skids and he ends up lying on his back in a ditch with a 400 kg bike on top of him... .both wheels pointing in the air.
Result?..the weirdest card he ever got.
Guess what's dislocated?
Just a dislocated hip. Nothing broken or injured, no rash, not even blood. They popped it back in, and he will be released tomorrow out of the hospital.
Someone is looking out for him :notworthy:
There was another post a while ago about a whine in 1st Gear. My theory is it is the missus. By the time you in 2nd gear you further from the wifey and the whine goes away :rofl2:
Doc reckons ligaments and will just take time ...
Had precautionary xrays just in case.
Hurts like hell when the painkillers wear off...
Don't think I'll be shooting my new rifle for a while.
My missus has no sympathy at all - calls me a walking disaster area, tells me I should take the bus everywhere in future instead of riding...
You'll have to change your signature back to what it used to be Mike - sounds like it was accurate, ya poor bugger!
Do you mean that at the bottom of my avatar thingy? :)
Yep, something magnet wasn't it?
