Well, it was bound to happen someday. Some muppet working on my fuel filler cap (me). I managed to drop the hex key off wrench. Smack bang on the top of the tank. I'm not gonna swear - I've already done this...
Anyone recommend where I can get a touch-up pen please? I have a few chips on the front too. So, it's going to get some use. I've looked on bike colours site. Nothing Only start at 2004 models.

Halfords - they do cans of spray paint (which is much better than touch up sticks as its thinner - takes a few "touch-ins" but you don't get the big blobs.
Only thing to watch for Brian is that when I had my K2 (years ago!) they had it on their system as 1FL rather than 1LF - but that's what you need. They have to make it up for you (its not on the racks, its "mixed to order" while you wait, but its a pretty damn good match. They only other item you will need is some clear lacquer for when its all touched in, but I daresay you or someone you know has some of that.
Or....go to the man who sprayed your bellypan to see if he has any left over. They do keep it sometimes!
To apply the paint to a chip I often use a matchstick that i've whittled to a sharp point. I find it easier to apply a tiny amount of paint rather than overpainting which can sometimes happen with a brush.

Personally I prefer a small modelling brush. I've tried the matchstick before, but not by whittling it down, rather by crushing the end to make it fibrous then adjusting the width of the splayed fibres with a knife - so much the same thing really.
Either way you do it the thinner the paint you can use, and then build up the layers, the better the end result will be. I've done it that way for years, and at the end you can hardly see the chip, as you can get the thickness of the applied paint pretty well spot on. For lacquer I leave the small touch up pens of the stuff (that you seem to get everywhere for cars these days) in the airing cupboard overnight next to the immersion heater such that its nice and runny instead of gloopy when you try to apply it.

I have some tiny 4mm/OO gauge brushes I use for modelling. Better than using the huge brush that comes with the stick. I have several annoying pain chips in the usual places on front of talk. Hopefully job's a good 'un. And next time I'll cover the tank. It could have been worse - a mate doing top yoke nut up slipped and dented his tank... :facepalm:
Im after some of this touch up aswell for a lot of tiny chips on the front of the fuel tank...
Seen the stuff on ebay but how did everyone get on with it before I buy?

Mark, if you go to Halfords they can mix up a spray can of 1KF Pearl Deep Blue (although they used to have it coded as 1FL Pearl Deep Blue). Personally I always prefer using a little bit of paint sprayed into the lid and applied with a fine modelling brush as you can control how much paint you use, and it's thin enough to get into all the edges. Takes 2-3 goes to get the level up (and then apply the final lacquer touch up) but a better job IMO than touch up pens which give big blobs of heavy sticky paint.
Just my opinion.
i got the touch up little bottle made up. used all the info available. matched colours etc. my fr. guard had stone chips. i thought id done a great job. i tried very hard to in fill blemishes. just looked terrible. i got guard vinyl wrapped, so nice. front sides of tank same wrap, just two patches. carbon fibre . looks perfect. quote to paint guard was 400 bucks. total wrap including tank was 100. wrap will also help prevent future stone damage.

I got a litre of the paint from Hal frauds and its a decent match (depends of the accuracy of the person mixing though) - do as Barmy says and build up the base coat and then do the same with clear coat/lacquer - with the clear coat dab it on to make sure its on top of the base and they dont mix as itll take the final sheen away. the only issue with rattle cans is the paint tends to be P155 thin so itll spray out of the can so if using some rattle can paint spray into the cap and allow some of the thinners to evaporate
once all done if you feel confident flatten the areas you touched in with a 1200 grit wet n dry paper to get and even surface and then tcut to get a luster back - if you dont feel to confident doing this step then dont just incase you polish thorough the finish
