Title: rev her up
Post by: grog on Monday, 31 July 2017, 07:34 PM
day in day out riding, had this bike a long time. boring old bike, do i need a new one. went and sat on new yamahas, cant even read the digital dash. mid bike crisis, is that a fair description. had a ride on mates harley , all hotted up, stage 3 he calls it. just a terrible bike. i told him it was ok, poor bloke loves it. tonight ride home i decided to give the big girl a rev. skirts up. rarely use more than 5k revs. tonight was 7k. only 15 or 20 minutes, a new love affair. both of us grinning, sat and had a look, even a second look. no more thinking of a replacement.

Wow!  7k RPM  :worshippy:  I often wonder what that might be like.  4k has me terrified.    :embarassed: :embarassed:

did the exact same thing this morning - road with my M8 on his GSXR750 to ThunderRoad to check out the latest bikes ( and the bacon Rolls of course !) drooled over a few bikes but then as I rode home and took her to the Red Line I thought do you know what - I am still in Love with her so new new affair  :smile2:

If its all standard nothing much happens after about 7k, gets a bit breathless, but, up to that - wow. Its basically a 1400 air/oil cooled car engine in a much lighter structure and a 6.5k or 7k redline would not be unusual for a car engine that size. Not saying our 14s would cope with a sports bike on a track but in the real world on real roads they have plenty of usable power and torque in the right places.
I'm still head over heels in love with my 14 after 11 years  :smitten:

the mighty 14 can keep lots of sports bikes behind them .
sports bikes have the top speed but not the grunt of a 14 so out of thr bends the 14 has it but if the straights are to long they come past us.

The 14 is like an old paiir of slippers,  you wouldnt mind some new ones......you try some on, but somehow they just dont quite fit.  :smitten:

i have a problem with lying down bikes due to a broken neck many years ago so its sit up or nothing .
i have tried other bikes but even the bking wasn't right for me so I'll stick with my gsx1400's they do everything i need and go quite fast enough to keep embarrassing  proper fast bikes in the real world on real roads  :wheelie: :deadhorse:

If / when I ever get another bike it will certainly be an ADDITIONAL bike and not an INSTEAD of bike.
