Well as I have an Audi, I take exception to that Seth.

But if we are going to start this thread, then l;ets talk about the pig headed arrogant bike riders who think they own the road and that everyone should get out of their way. Totally pi$$es me off that they think that "threading" at illegal speeds through rush hour traffic is ok and that they own the road.

Evan as a biker myself, I've seen too many tossers on bikes who think they can ride big bikes but frankly are just an accident waiting to happen.

So great car drivers - the bikers need to sort their own riding out first as the majority of it is atrocious.

Let the fight begin

i agree with the statement on bikers that bully there way through traffic

the reason behind bmw and audi drivers is up here in aberdeen they seam to be the company car of choice and they seam to forget how to drive as soon as they get the keys

Ah - so its regional issues! Down here its the Merc drivers who leave their brains at home and drive like complete twats.

Yes you have point there ,,, there are to many bike mad heads out there that give the remainder a very bad name ,, so then it portrays the rest of use to be the same

And filtering at speed like it's the god given right is also wrong to

But on reflection there are to many car bus and lorry drivers breaching the law in so many ways and not caring about other drivers or riders

BMW are up there as a good front runner so are vw and white van man

Just my throughs  :onya:

I'm  a white can driver and we have 2 vw's
i think there are good and bad drivers/riders

i don't want to piss anyine off
maybe this thread isn't such a good idea

it just seams to be these days there are so many aggressive people on the roads.

Barmy makes some very good points. Some bike riders do give those that ride more responsibly a bad name. Im sure we have all seen this.
I repair cars for a living..... like 40 years of a living. One day a GS1000S turned up on a tow truck.....well, buried in the LR door of a Cortina. Line of traffic was stopped. Matey on the GS was overtaking up the left hand side. Didnt see a gap left open for a driver to turn right. Need i say more ?
Stationary line of traffic, Mitsi SUV driver had enough of waiting..... decides its Uturn time.
I fixed the Mitsi....."I didnt see the bike" he says.
I ask why was the bike going so fast ? Some guys just dont see the dangers.
I dont see drivers of any make of vehicles being any better or worse . My comment referring to an Audi in a different post was purely about the car she was driving. She was the problem....not the car.

Some of our problems here are the tourists that hop straight into a rental car and cannot control a car or stay on the correct side of the road.

Here in Aus our traditional enemies were Volvo drivers. The old - wearing a hat, in a big unbreakable steel box, I don't need to worry about everything "out there" attitude....

But in recent years those type of people have switched from Volvos to Korean shitboxes.... Don't see too many Volvos around any more.  Or perhaps because they look more modern, I just don't notice them.

I'm not so sure it's down to the make of car, more like the feckin stupid occupant!  My experiences of late (and I also drive an Audi ) have been with young ladies driving like they are late for everything.  I'm pretty sure it's not only young women, and maybe I'm turning into an old fogie, but these 'kids' have no idea about the potential they have for causing carnage.
Stereotyping car owners (or bikers) or in fact any vehicle driver including white van man only serves to make us feel 'rightly' indignant about how bad everyone else's driving is.  We've all done it, done something stupid or reckless while driving.... and I defy anyone to put their hand up and say "No.. not me, I drive perfectly!"

Climbs down off soapbox.. :computer_type:

Ya should take one for a blast Proteous, along the beach or up rivers & through forests. Bloody excellent fun.

Power sliding & drifting on the beach, seeing how far you can lift the inside wheel (before you roll - which is not conducive to a long life) hellava buzz.

I had a YFM 400, had it rebuilt & gave to Mrs, got myself a 700 Grizzly, goes like a shower of shit, gotta be careful on that, cos if it bites me, it's gonna really hurt.

I'd actually been running it as a rat car for about 3 years before I encountered the owners club. It started because I had an issue with a brake warning light that wouldn't go out and some guy on a forum suggest I meet him at this garage so he can have a look, what I didn't know though was it was an owners club event with a row of immaculate classic Volvos lined up - rarely have so many jaws hit the floor at once than when I rolled in with some old punk songs blaring out of the stereo!!! I found out later though that the active club members were the guys who were working on their own old cars to just keep them running and they were all alright about the rat car, the show pony brigade only ever turned up if there was a chance of a trophy to take home!

Tell you what - after just retiring. I used to do with work/commuting/pleasure over 60000 miles a year. I did see a bit...

I blame car manufacturers. Why? Because of all the bullshit on how they say their cars are xxx safe. Crumple zones/impact bars/air bags. Most reading this stuff instantly think they are invincible.

Did you ever use to see two Morris Minors tailgating down the third lane of the motorway at 80mph 10 feet off the rear bumper. No. Yes, I know they would struggle to get to 80. But, its the whole point.

Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble drove their cars with all their limbs exposed. Bit like a bike really. Would they do it? No. Would Mr sales rep tailgate a car in lane three of the M1 at 80mph 10 foot off the other cars bumper if his legs were sticking out. No.

People drive as if they don't give a toss. My first car was a MK5 Cortina. If you hit anything it just crumpled. Not helped by rust of course!

In descending order (I live in a rural area)

1) Any male 17-21 'fronting' on parents insurance. Nightmare. With car full of mates.
2) Any German saloon (sorry Dave).
3) Any 4x4 near schools. Supermarket car parks etc.

Mate of mine just bought a BMW 3 series. He jokes it does not have an indicator stalk. A button that locks the car in lane 2 or lane 3 constantly. And an ability to tailgate very close. He is a biker. LGV driver. And hates BMW drivers. Says it all... :boogie2:

the big problem isnt car drivers as such
its just most have never even been on a bike never mind ridden one.
there mot used to the dangers on the roads
the best drivers of any vehicle mostly are also motorcyclists too .

we all know that after a short time  (couple of years) motorcyclist are full aware how dangerous it is out there and pay much more attention to traffic and weather conditions.

i didn't bother with my car test till i was 21 by then id been riding my bikes daily for everything (work, socialising and general transpost)since i was 16 the driving instructor said he'd never seen a learner with such good observation skills
he understood when i told him i had motorbikes .

on saturday i pulled up in my work ute, phone call from a mate. just sitting talking, down the footpath beside me at around 50 or 60 ks comes the trail bike rider. no helmet, shirt n shorts only. back wheel slid, he missed the power pole by a hair width. so lucky. is that a reason people hate bikes? i think so. i wanted to chase and flog him, i didnt. annoys me to the max. we, most of us, do the right thing but people only remember the frogwits.

Apparently it's Jaguar drivers who are the worst, followed closely by Beemer drivers.

I'm sure you lot are picking on me because I drive a Vorsprung Durch Technic uber machine. Jealously will get you everywhere  :rofl2:

Hell, every make of car I like appears to be disliked by the biking fraternity. BMW, Audi, Merc & Jag.

Just as well I've got an old V8 Ford & a wee Mazda run about as well.

In the 80's it was Volvo drivers, especially pipe smoking trilby wearing types so if you like them as well you are doomed to burn in hell for eternity, sorry, I don't make the rules  :whatever:

Trilby wearing??  That got me recalling something.  Down this way, even the cops say if the driver is wearing a hat in the car, watch them!  & it's often true, the number of times I've come across stupid ass driving & have a look, yep they're wearing a fecken hat.

Mrs even watches for it now & tells me, watch it, he's got a hat on!

Looks like I better put my trilby on Ebay - can't wear it on the 14 so no funny looks or honking then ! :smile2:

I see it's a problem all over, of course the trilby has been replaced by the even more stupid baseball cap worn backwards (bit like their brains).
I still give hat wearing drivers a wide berth.

Yes, I'd class it as a 'hat'.  They certainly fit the criteria of hat drivers.

You don't even have to be the driver or wear a hat to kill someone, and the penalty is disgusting.

OK time for me to have a whine.

Riding in today, drizzly and wet roads.  Some arse-clown (in, yes I have to say it, an Audi*) came flying out of a side street directly in front of me.  He hadn't even been waiting at the intersection, I had no chance whatsoever of seeing him in advance.

So a puckering time for me as I applied brakes, attempting (and hoping like heck) to avoid a lock up.  Fortunately the driver careered past me into another lane, only correcting his own line in time to avoid running up the footpath and into a brick wall - more's the pity.

Adrenaline city for me, still calming down.  That was a close one !!!!

*I am not implying that this is a general characteristic of Audi drivers.  Arse clowns come in cages of all varieties....

Oh and is it OK that my thoughts as I wondered whether collision was imminent somehow turned to "I hope this prick doesn't break my bike... I don't want to miss to MCR!"
