Hi Guys,
I attended this on Sunday, really sad story of Owen Jenkins a 12 yr old boy who tragically drowned after jumping in the River Trent to try and save a friend who had got into difficulty. He was not a good swimmer, so an incredible act of bravery which sadly cost him his young life.
The ride out was organised by Nottz Bikerz as one of the admin was very close to Owens family.
Over 600 bikes turned up and we rode to Owens School to lay some flowers and then onto a service by the river at the spot Owen jumped in.
I have to say the organisation was fantastic and it was an emotion packed day but you couldn't help but be swept away by the good will generated not just by the biking community who turned up in massive numbers lead by Owen's brother on his bike, but also the local community who wlecomed the procession by lining the streets.
Ownes favorite colour was purple so that's why you see purple ribbons and T shirts everywhere. I have to admit when we rode into the estate and you saw the streets lined with people clapping and every door with a purple ribbon there was a tear in my eye. But what a tribute it was, the police closed off all the junctions so we could go straight through, the convoy took 16 mins to pass by!!
Proud to be a biker and proud to be a human being on this day
RIP little man.

Very sad, but very touching story Red.
A brave soul indeed. RIP
very emotional Kiwi but we left with a warm feeling!
I forgot to add, Bikers and locals raised over £4k to help the family give him a good send off, the funeral is on saturday.

Always sad to read of events where one individual loses their life trying to save or assist another. What a brave little lad. As a parent, I'd clearly be extremely sad, but also extremely proud.
And a great send off and mark of respect from all involved in the event.
RIP little lad.
