It was the bloody government that encouraged us to buy diesel cars, now they want to ban them and tax us more to have them, bastards  :furious:

I was driving a new SQ7 today.

I have never driven any car that had so much grunt at any speed and any revs.
I remember when diesels used to be taxi's, bus's and Transit van's, f#ck me, I've never driven a diesel so nice before! Big family wagon that thinks its a sports car!

Here on Monkey Island they are obsessed with diesels, they wedge them into everything, cos it saves them 0.1 cent per litre.
The rear of the cars are all black from the soot, they don't realise that huge amounts of soot = unburnt fuel.
Seen many a "classic" car advertised as diesel which is bs.
I'm not a diesel fan but as Tony said, proper factory diesels are very refined now.

Here in good old New Zealand they have been pushing us to buy electric or hybrid vehicles......so much better for the enviroment we are told.
Nek Minit.....we need to flood some more National Parkland to build a dam to supply  the increase in demand for electricity
.......errrr what ??

Be better for the enviroment to do away with the bullshit spinning tax grabbing politicians by 2040

Every year we "celebrate" Tax Payer Memorial Day", the day when we are done paying taxes for the year. In 1960 it was June 1st; now it was July 19th. The way it's developing, in 2040 we will celebrate for 2039

Electric mobility being better for the environment is a myth. As much as a myth as Angela Merkel's notion that millions of uneducated freeloaders, with a mindset that would fit better in the middle Ages, will be good for our economy.

Australia doesn't do nuclear power, although we supply the ingredients for it.

We banked on coal powered powerstations and now find we are struggling to supply our growing population. The answer was to put up the cost of electricity.

'Lecky vehicles are getting better all the time, sound and performance, but many Australians don't want City cars. I did and occasionally do 1000K days out West where there's an awful lot of nothing, an Emu, a dead roo and even more nothing.  I haven't seen many charging points, perhaps I need to take a petrol generator to charge my electric car? Or a trailer load of solar panels?

When it comes to charging points, Germany is like a huge desert. Electric car sales here are a huge flopp.

Our polys snivel on about pollution, traffic gridlock and parking issues.
Not one has ever suggested using motorcycles to solve or assist in dealing the with the problem. Why ??

I live in a coal generating area in Australia 3 power stations, one recently decommissioned and replaced by gas. Our government has it worked out the gas plant is on standby for emergency it only takes 2 hours to start up and then it only has a gas supply that lasts 4 hours.
Engineering at is best.

Gas for the plant gets trucked in?

Good suggestion it would probably be quicker.
Apparently there is a gas main between Sydney and Newcastle approx 150k's, power station is 50k's from Newcastle, the tap in would be about 10k's from main feeder, I seen them putting in storage buffers underground during construction, I think they where working in litres instead of gallons.

So why are we asked to create a small carbon footprint ?
When the goverment are able to create a glorious costly long wide thick black carbon infused skidmark. :frustrated:

Yeah mate - modern common rail diesels are a world apart from old direct injection engines.
I have one of the latter - a Tdi Defender - which could probably be described as the opposite of that thing you drove.
On the upside - a new injector only cost me $90 including fitting...
(compare with 10 times that for a new injector for the missus Jackaroo... and I doubt they've gotten any cheaper since)..

Well take that area, and multiply it by a large number to get a country the size of Australia - I don't think it'll work all that well here....

I can't see any electric vehicle being able to cross the Simpson desert or doing any number of remote outback trips... but I'm sure the pollies have an answer for that... just ban it.    :jack:

We might cut down on pollution in out city's (at considerable expense and inconvenience) but if we are serious about world pollution what the UK and AU do is a drop in the ocean unless you get the huge and rapidly expanding Chinese and Indian Governments / Car builders to play the same game.

It's the SQ7's electrics that make it clever.
The V8 twin turbo motor is good but the 48V electric compressor makes it next level for a family car.

900nm / 665 ftlb of torque and no hesitation in any gear at any speed !

I've been driving several different Porsche's this week but the Audi impressed me most.

Your job sounds terrible

I can't get excited about Audis, but it certainly sounds like that thing you drove is a beast.

Doesn't matter to me though I can't afford admission to that ballpark !  :)

We have the entire range from VW / Audi / Porsche / Kia / Hyundai / Mitsubishi / Toyota / Skoda / Isuzu trucks and a few others, but I'm a bit like you, the car I drive home in is worth less than the suspension upgrade on the Audi

....  :rofl2:

My Brother bought a new Tesla and is quite enthralled with its performance but mostly, country driving isn't usually more than a 350km round journey. He also has a second car, I forget what it is so if he needs to he can accomodate.
I personally am looking forward Electric Bikes and the possibilities it brings for Batteries. Imagine if you could Flash Charge a Battery in under 2 minutes. Hopefully, out there somewhere is some pointy headed bespeckled mathematician working on solution right now.

my 12 mth old hilux 2.4 turbo diesel. made to conform with newest euro regulation. brilliant work ute as far as comfort , power etc. 40 th ks. problem is its fitted with particulate filter. every so often blows clouds of smoke. i mean huge clouds. has had 3 new filters fitted under wrty. new computer re flash, problem solved they say. im worried. wrty runs out at 60ks. each filter costs 6k dollars. WTF. ute has to work for another 5 years, will it do it, not sure. will it do it without huge expense, not sure on that either. trapped as too much to re fit another ute. my last hilux, petrol, 300 th ks and only repair needed was a clutch. even sold it with worn out clutch, still going 12 mths later.

We are constantly told to cut our emissions and the noises from bikes are offensive.  Has anyone been stopped next to a bus in traffic, can't hear the bike cos of the row a bus is putting out then when it pulls away can't breath cos of the shit coming out of the exhaust.  :furious:

I deal with 50 to 100 Kia's most days. We have 700 coming in this week.
They are better than I expected. Certainly the more recent models. Sportage and Sorento would be my pick although the Cerato's seem the best sellers.

Not seen the specs on the smaller Stingers, but the twin turbo version put in similar times to the n/a 6.2ltr Commodore in tests. I read the police have vehicles booked for testing.
