Title: Hipsters and their bikes
Post by: essexboydave on Sunday, 23 July 2017, 10:11 PM
OK what's everyone's views on Hipsters? I've heard on some forums that they get slagged off something rotten for all sorts of reasons, everything from their alleged taste for designer coffee to the beard oil to the way they like to customise various "classics" like CX500's and Super Dreams-I use the term "classic" rather loosely here though as I've never liked either bike ;) Personally I think it's great that a new generation is getting into bikes, so what if they don't dress like I did when I was that age-I didn't dress like the generation before me either and I got equally criticised for trying to turn every bike I could into some kind of budget Easy Rider clone so I'm no better.
I did visit the Bike Shed in Shoreditch the other day as I was in the area and in need of some lunch and I can say I found it an excellent place. Being a weekday it was pretty quiet when I was in there but that did give me a good opportunity to look over the bikes and I liked what I saw, the food was good too even though it was quite expensive but then so's just about everywhere else round there and I found the people I spoke to to be pretty cool and laid back. I will admit though that I do not like to see bikes fitted with brown seats and there were a couple of those but that's my only gripe!

As long as they ride bikes I couldn't care if they have a beard or not but a brown saddle  :confused1:

Brown saddle is to hide the skid marks because most of them cant ride that's why they just do coffee shop runs.  :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:

Most are fashion victims with crap bikes with crap mods,
waaaay more interest in their image than their bikes.

Each to their own but I don't feel any motorcycling connection to myself.

Hipster and biker are 2 words not to used in the same sentence.
The stupid lids they wear are enough for me to write them off

Is that a CB350?     chopped into a 'cafe racer' with a brown seat??   O.M.G!

well, suppose if it makes them happy . . .  each to their own.   Not my thing at all though.

Sort of reminds me of those guys you had in UK years ago, who were renegades & rebels riding scooters or mopeds or whatever, they've been resurrected and go by the name of Hipsters now.  LOL!

I have no care on how people dress and what they do in their spare time. As long as people are not trying to define what makes a real motorcyclist or motorcycle it's all good.

not for me either. just posers with crappy old bikes. not motorcyclists or bikers, bike people. mate bought a scrambler ducati, same sort of thing to me. i can appreciate the old cafe racer thing, been around forever. still not my style. just like the harley softail blokes, all about attitude and being part of a so called , if you dont have a harley your nothing brigade. not why i ride.

Well Tug, it has twin discs, mudguards and sensible tyres, so no Hipster label for you

That looks ok Tug, different to the pic of the Honda, but, show us what gear you wear whilst riding this machine, if you look like any of the 4 peeps in the lineup above, slap yourself & change into some proper riding gear & any hint of hipsterness will be gone.

Tug, one of the best motors ever fitted to a motorcycle. ive had a few, modified a few. not the best frame but i never had a prob. sound unreal. i bought a brand new in 1975, rode it 2 th ks to brisbane. changed cams, exhaust, whole body work to cafe racer. could top out at 200ks, blow off cb750 honda. then turned it into a chopper, extended forks, king/queen seat. also good. loved that bike. will look for a pic.

Grog

They are good engines and must be one of the most customised bikes due to the look of the engine, as you made yours into a cafe racer first :stir: are you sure you are not a closet Hipster

:upu:

I have a beard but nobody could mistake me for a hipster.
I don't have a freaking man bun though...  :jack:

I do have a CX500 (in boxes largely :rofl3: ) that I am customising.
I'd certainly not describe it as a classic though, if it were I wouldn't be screwing with it would I....

Oh and I'm on a CX500 forum and none of the guys on there that I've met are even remotely hipster, and nor do I get that impression of the ones I haven't met.
I suspect that's because bikers like to fiddle with their own bikes when building cafĂ©-racers / custom bikes.  Hipsters just throw a pile of money at Deus ex Machina....

Tug, no closet would fit me in. we just used to play around with ideas/bikes. was a fun thing, never classified ourselves into a certain group. still doing same 45 yrs later. old 650 motor certainly a good looker but 14 motor is also.
