Title: hi, new 1400 owner
Post by: fylfot on Thursday, 20 July 2017, 07:11 AM
Hi everyone, my name's dave, recently took the plunge and bought a gsx1400, it is my most modern bike ever owned (2003) and I loved it. I have been raving to everyone about how smooth and reliable it is, I have been out on it everyday just finding reasons to ride it.....then it wouldn't start? had a red symbol on the centre of the clocks and a fi on the digital display. I kept turning the ignition off and on and then suddenly it was back to normal, started lovely, turned it off, turned it back on, wouldn't start again? some weird intermittent fault, any ideas? fuel injection is a mystery to me, all my other bikes have been carb models, no sensors or computers. Hope I can sort it, want to get back out there.

Welcome to the club!

FI means error in Fuel Injection system. There is a service connector under the seat, where hot wiring some pins, you will see error code.
There is a topic's about this:

If this error disappear after playing with ignition key, then it's possible issue is in yours bike ignition lock. Have same issue on my - from time to time, I have an problem with it, but never take it apart, to find where the issue really is.  :hat:

Hey fylfot, I'm only just down the road in Billericay. Do you still have this problem? If so I may well be able to nip up one evening to see if we could track it down....

One thing you could try - take off the LH side panel, underneath there will be a big grey plug. Pull it apart, squirt some contact cleaner on the contacts and re-assemble. Actually a squirt of contact cleaner down the ignition switch may not hurt either

Welcome mate, worth buying the 14 if only for the camaraderie on here, Barmy's offer is in this day and age somewhat remarkable but on this site not at all surprising. Well done you for buying a 14 and well done Barmy for the genuine helpfulness.
