Title: Bought a new (to me) laptop.
Post by: VladTepes on Thursday, 29 June 2017, 11:19 AM
Just bought a new (to me) lappy.

Lenovo Thinkpad T460 14" Laptop

pecs:

* Intel i7-6600U Skylake (3.4ghz Turbo, 4MB Cache)
* 16GB RAM (Upgradeable to 32GB, 2x slots)
* 192GB SATA SSD (upgradeable), also M.2 PCIe slot available
* Intel 8260, Wireless-N 2x2 11b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth
* Intel I219 Gigabit w/RJ45 ethernet port
* Intel HD Graphics 520
* 14" LED Backlit IPS screen (1920x1080, 700:1 contrast, 160deg viewing angle)
* 3x USB 3.0 ports (1x can be set to always charge devices), HDMI, Mini-DP (used for DVI-I/DisplayPort), Docking Station Connector
* 4-in-1 card reader
* Spill-proof keyboard with drainage, backlit 3 adjustable levels
* Front camera
* Magnesium alloy skeleton, hybrid glass-fibre reinforced case
* Removable and internal batteries
* 33.9cm x 23.2cm x 2.1cm
* Windows 10 Pro Licensed/Activated

I also got a spare larger battery as well.

It's just out of warranty but these things are 'bulletproof' and I reckon at $930 it's a good buy.
(considering it would cost about twice as much for a new one)

I've researched a lot before buying this and reviews are almost universally positive.
Other owners I've asked are also very happy with them...

Now waiting patiently for Mr Postman sometime this week with any luck....

Thanks for that Mike
I was looking at that as well - it is CAN $1400 new so I'll wait and see what your reviews are
Before biting the bullet!
Cheers

Doesn't have a CD though mate - as you said elsewhere almost none of them do these days. Mostly because they USUALLY aren't needed.  I daresay that's the case for you as well; and on the rare occasions you may need to there are small usb external CD readers available.

As an aside - The price I'm paying (2nd hand in Aus) isn't really comparable to new canddaian prices - but I think the default is 8mb ofRam and just comes with the one battery.  There are i5 and i7 versions too.

hope its all good Vlad. my thinkpad tablet is a disaster. said before, Lenovo stands for lean over the nearest cliff and drop it off. im sure yours will be better, different type of machine, much more powerful.

Yeah I was originally going to buy a Yoga tablet but for various reasons changed my mind and went with this instead.  I think that might have been a good call.
