Title: simple ride home from work
Post by: grog on Tuesday, 20 June 2017, 07:36 PM
coming home tonight, a bit wet so just cruising along in traffic, dual lanes. decided no filtering, will just follow the cars. damp road. next thing a big spin of wheels behind me, he stopped a few mm from my arse end. did it twice more. vw gti golf. really didnt concern me. running down hill to two lane roundabout, he then passed me on lhs, i was in lh lane. he used the pushbike lane. full speed past then just aimed at my front wheel. full on stop for me. thru roundabout, swerving at me. i then decided to filter, get away. mad person. never seen before, why does this crap happen. i could see him in mirror trying to catch me again, too much traffic to do that. on drugs, hates bikes, not sure. be careful you blokes. frogwits are out there. livened my ride up. he doesnt realise that the cops will have his number plate tomorrow.

Crazy stuff, glad you are ok.
It happens so much here, I walk to work and almost stopped riding altogether.

Same problem here when commuting. I watch the front wheels of cars while filtering.
I dont filter at speed but you can see some people turn their wheels and close down your space just to give you a squeeze.
Wife got home from work yesterday and told me  of some silly bitch tailgating so close she couldnt see her headlights and looking very erratic in the the car. Missus reckoned she must have been off her chops. That person is a dodgy neighbour that lives no more that two hundred metres down the road from us.
Coppers will have her plate number by the end of the week too.
Methamphetamine is a big problem here, easier to get than Cannabis. The people on Meth are just off the planet.....but driving !!

A mate from work on his 14 had a similar experience with some nutter; he said he has never ever
had a problem in 30 odd years of riding.

There are some nut jobs out there, best keep right away from them.

Another mate use to leave his GoPro on all the time on a loop when riding - there is probably some merit in that idea.

It's good to see you are OK.

@grog

Glad you're ok mate. I've had a good few experiences of my own, but the most deliberate and reckless story I have is this:

Was on my old CG125, heading in to college. Kept my distance from the traffic in front, as you do. This woman in front in a mini decides to suddenly hammer her brakes, full on. There was nothing in front of her, nothing at the sides of the road which could have caused a hazard. I hit both brakes and kept the clutch out for added engine braking and managed to stop about 2cm from her rear bumper. She then switched into 1st and floored it off down the road. I was too busy sitting there kicking down all the gears into 1st so I could take off again. I'm just glad it wasn't a wet day, or i'd have been down on the ground.

Another time, I was filtering past some traffic, when this idiot in front notices me in his mirror and decides to pull into the junction on the right (straight across my path, UK Roads) I was quick enough to swerve to the left and avoid, but still. I know it was deliberate because he was sitting there with the junction to his right with no oncoming traffic for a while until I came up, then turned.

I also regularly notice people getting angry about the fact you've just filtered to the front of the queue. The other week, I go right to the front, and because I did it, I get someone behind me using their horn. Why is that? Honestly, can't they see that we're doing them a favour by easing congestion? Our acceleration ensures we're off down the road before they even take off. Not like I do it recklessly either. Idiot car drivers.

As previously mentioned by @Kiwifruit, I also watch their front wheels nowadays and be ready.

@grog  Glad you managed to stay out of his way mate.  Reckon if that had happened to me, I've of followed him, wait till he stopped & then given him the rest of his lunch - the knuckle sandwich he was missing!  :furious:

Its why I now have a camera on both the front and back of my bike, too many halfwits out there who think it funny that they may "upset" a bike. He was probably upset that you were driving carefully.

Glad you are ok though Grog - although if your police are anything like ours, without some sort of evidence (camera footage or witness) unlikely they can do anything as its your word against his.

Geez @grog, I cannot think of any other reason as to why someone would do such a thing other than drugs - it's dangerous out there and you did the best thing in trying to get well away. No sense in trying to be a hero.

By the sounds of it you got him on video?? QPS won't do much if you just hand them a numberplate unfortunately.

Glad your OK grog.  Also good thing you got the plate.

Ice is a massive problem these days so wouldn't surprise me at all if that were the case....

Not a motorcycle but still two wheels.
Years ago to beat the traffic i used to cycle to work.
One dark, wet friday night a Subaru full of young louts decided to give me a squeeze and mouthfulls of abuse for being a cyclist.
Knowing that i soon had 3 sets of traffic lights to negotiate i pedalled like crazy. At the 3rd set of lights there was the Subaru stuck in traffic. Man i hit that Subaru so hard on the roof that i probably dented it. Their windows were down and i reckon they shit themselves listening to the noise coming out of it as i sped past.
I know i should'nt have done it but i did enjoy getting even !!

Sadly there are nutters all over the world and they get to drive cars.
I have noticed several times that when I have overtaken a car, BMW, Audi, Merc and anything hot hatch like, they somehow see it as challenge and try to get in front again. I think its an ego thing with some drivers. Of course I normally completely lose them in traffic with no real effort at all.
I reckon you may have had an extreme version of this.

no vw tonight hassling, much nicer ride. when younger i might have pursued him, old fart now, realise limits. also realise the ice thing, i just try to keep away just in case. similar thing happened just up north last year, bloke followed woman and stabbed her with samurai sword. off his nut on meth, carried sword for defense. court finding. not even jailed. WTF.

That's staggering!!   If you went out & hacked someone to death with a knife / sword, you'd get life in jail, just cos you're off your nut on drugs you get treated different???  Bloody madness.  Send the bastards to Indonesia / Phillipines or wherever that crazy dictator is, who kills all the druggies. Won't be doing that again will they!!

How do i vote for you Col ??

Col, you may remember back a few years a piece of dirt called Antonie Dixon cut the hands off a couple of women with a Samurai sword. Then shot and killed a guy. That guy was off his chops on meth. He used to come into a place i was working to see the boss. What an evil person he was. Did top himself in jail though. Tried to portray himself as a sycho trying to get off on mental illness grounds. Hung himself......id put money on the gaurds just watching.
I went to an education evening on drugs at my kids school once. Had a reformed meth addict telling us that they may not see a baby in a pram....but see a monster in the pram instead. Which they proceed to kill.
The cooks and suppliers of that shit get sod all for their crimes.....the gangs use kids as young as 8 to sell it at school because they cannot be charged. ( a school near here.)
What a great export industry we could have with those counties you mention Col.
Sorry lads that shit just winds me up.....rant over.
Pleased you enjoyed your ride home today Grog.
