Title: Getting rid of used oil
Post by: VladTepes on Wednesday, 01 February 2017, 01:57 PM
So I did an oil change. Used 4.6? or 4.8 whatever litres of a 5l bottle.

So bottle isn't empty to pour the used oil back into.

Not supposed to chuck it down the drain or anything.

There oil recycling at the local tip, but what container to use...?

I actually keep the 5l bottles used for screen wash (it does down to -50..... but not needed on the bike lol), so use one of those if I don't empty the oil can..  Having said that, I can only get oil in 4 litre bottles... so have to buy a 1ltr bottle as well, comes in handy for top ups between changes.

Yep, same here.

Only I dump it at work. We have a old oil collection drum.

I bring a 25 litre container home from work every so often. Used oil goes into it..Some gets mixed 50/50 with creosote to paint the shed and the rest gets taken to our local council recycling centre and dumped in the oil barrel up there.

I know that some people have made oil drip feed heaters that burn used oil. Seems a good way of turning a waste product into free heat.

Seal old engine oil, making sure the cap is on tightly.
Locate your nearest store below and put it in the big yellow bin.
