Question: What's the BEST colour for a 1400?
So.... get your  ready....
What's the BEST colour for a 1400. :whistling:
FYI this link shows the various colour schemes the GSX1400 came in.
http://www.suzukicycles.org/GSX-series/GSX1400.shtml
My top 3 would be....
1: The Back with Gold wheels version.
2: The all Black version.
3: The AU White / Blue "Special Edition" (the TRUE final edition model)
They'd also be my top 3 Tony & in the same order.
Black!
Just to sprinkle this with a little debate powder here is my opinion on why Black is my preferred choice.
As a muscle bike it needed an outfit to portray the image, ever seen a bouncer in a white, red or silver suit?
As a muscle bike it needed to look menacing and have a presence that said look but don't touch.
As a muscle bike it doesn't need to be in your face, better to draw respectful attention.
For me the solid colours give the 14 its true identity, Black, Blue, or Silver with subtle quality mods give the bike a mature, respected, sophisticated presence, a little like the Rolls of the cage world, this is not to say that subtle flashes of colour cant express the bike more but they must for me be limited in size and blend rather than jump out at you.
When I bought my first K7 it was Blue and white of which at the time I quite liked and still do, it didn't appear shell suited if you get what I mean, I have however recently bought a K6 in solid black which to be honest I feel needs something adding just to lift its dark appearance,( gold wheels perhaps? ) before purchase I was actually looking for a red / black K6 but having checked one out I started having doubts so left it alone and bought a black one, I did however buy a red black tank cover to experiment colour coordinating with but this has drawn a blank.
All you blue white owners will be thinking what a load of bull by now and I wouldn't expect anything less to be honest but keep calm as I do love looking at all 14s, from the ice cream van, shell suit brightly coloured to the unloved rat types, I just feel that Bandits or other naked bikes carry the bling and soft colours better than the 14.
over to you :onya:
i like my red and black k5 colours best . :smitten:
but my blue/white k6 is fastest of course :stir:
great comments, brilliant stuff. i like my k7 blue n white, thats what i have. some other blue n white models i dont like at all. silver my fave, the blacks i like, always liked black bikes and silver bikes. then why own a blue n white you say, just how it happened. no regrets. ill vote silver.
I of course will go with the blue and white .because it
1 fastest
2 looks clean and sharp
3 blue and white are safe colour to be seen
4 because I love blue and white
5 because I really love blue and white
6 oh I can't say that one I've said it a few times
7 because it's :boogie: cool 😎
Had to use seven lucky number that my take on it anyway :onya: :stir: :stir: :stir:
Blue and White is almost Rainbow :stir:
Mine is a 2007 Blue and white fe which I like but it's just paint :stir:
I just want milk that tastes like milk  seriously though I chose the bike because I like the feel of it, low seat height and it's a true jappa retro Gruntmaster. I first started riding in 1972 on a naked bike (CB175 Honda red/black) and I'll finish up on the 14, and yes this is my last bike
I was hovering a little just before I bought my 14 just over 11 years ago now. Walked into the dealers with no expectation of buying a bike and there is was in Red and Black. That swung it. After a short period of haggling over price and extras I signed up on the spot due to love at first sight with my Red and Black beauty.
White wheels - not for me as I like riding my bikes so much more than cleaning them.
Solid coloured 14s - for me a bit boring but if that was all there was I would have one.
Its all subjective - no one is right or wrong on this of course. You could argue that the fact that there are more blue and white ones around means that is the best colour. You could also argue that their buyers were just sheep following the flock. Spiders outnumber the human population by many times and most of them like eating flies - does not make them right though does it?
I walked into the dealership 2002 to buy a 1200 Bandit. Sat on it and was disappointed because of me needing O-shaped legs to comfortably sit on it. "Wait" said the dealer, "I got something a lot better than the Bandit". Right he was! The was a blue 14. The only one available. Packed it in right away and never regretted it. Now I have a silver. Color doesn't matter as the bike is much more than the color (which can be changed anyway). I am certain we all agree on that.
It's Black for me, Leyther you present a very good case and it's difficult to disagree with any of that!
In essence a big muscle bike needs to look a bit mean, which by definition is 'Dark' and sinister, think Batman/Knight Rider/Terminator/SAS etc etc
Other Colours can be 'pretty' but that's not the message I want to portray :salute:
Having said that I have got Red calipers
Ask yourself this: Did Libre Archie or John Inman ever wear Black? Have you ever seen Arnie in Blue & White?.........My case rests
Red
Everybody to there own and rightly so, but when i decided i wanted a 1400 there was only one colour scheme for me which is the Blue and white, just to add to this and i have owned approximately 300 bikes, i have never been bothered about colour of any of my bikes before, but the blue and white gives me a warm feeling.
sad
I forgot about this pole & just seen the results. Glad to see there are a lot of you with good taste :stir:
The red and black version is by far the best visually. I have an all black and that's probably the next best thing..
to be honest, I do not like Suzuki color schemes, so I did custom paint-job for my 14 :boogie2:

I must say, I do like the Black & Red as well. The all Black looks the toughest, but not the best :stir:

unless you are Ghost Rider, black is also less visible on a street. From safety side, it's quit important also (IMHO)
I disagree with you on that Northern. I'm of the opinion black stands out more / has a higher contrast, to the surroundings than say, blue/white.
Black is not something one chooses for camouflage as there is no flora with that non-color. It makes a noticeable black hole to the observer. Obviously it is just the opposite during dark. Makes Northern and Col both right. That is why we should ride with lights on all the time.
The Aus & NZ bikes are hard wired to have headlight always on.
only early 14's up to k4 (i think ) have headlights you can turn off and that might only be in the uk.
they used the switch on later models for the hazzard light operation.

Actually Seth, I think its only K2's that you can switch the headlight off on (and I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the later/last K2's may not even have that feature, the ones they built just before the K3 came out)
German K2s, at least the two I (had) have can turn headlights off.

Mine is K3, and headlight is always on.
@KiwiCol @Andre In my point of view, black is less visible by peoples "side vision". It could be "lost" in shadows.
Fair enough mate.
Having done a "Biker Down" course in the UK recently, it became apparent that you have to dress appropriate to surroundings to maintain visibility. So as a for instance, in the UK, paramedics bikes are flourescent yellow/green, and they wear yellow hi-vis. Great during the day, highly visible, but under flourescent lights in town for night driving they blend in. There are other instances of where to dress in black, orange etc can be appropriate and inappropriate, so the message is - dress for where you will drive.
You also have to remember that if you hold a pencil up and look at the front of a motorcycle that is only 200' away, all you will see are the outsides of the wing mirrors - so then it doesn't matter how you are dressed, how many lights you have on, or what the colour of your bike is, a driver may STILL not see you - and at the speeds vehicles travel, 200' is not a lot of distance.
Food for thought guys!
Good point Dave! As a lover of the 'stealth' look I always assume I've not been seen and ride accordingly.
I dont believe the colour of bike or even your gear has any influence on your chances of being in an accident, it's the way you drive that will determine how safe you are. That's not to say any of us can't be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time by a random muppet in a car unfortunately.

as said before nothing faster than the speed of dark as it's always there before the light . :boogie:
Never heard that
@seth but definetely true. Nothing faster than the Absolute Nothing. But I rather ride a bike than riding nothing. Maybe those owners of a black 14 are just imagining they are riding a bike.

For sure, color of the bike and gear, will not give you protection from bad luck, but if it increase your safety even for 1%, then it's better then it doesn't.
But maybe, I just do not like black, and finding excuses...
It would definitely add safety if bike and rider could change colors like a chameleon, just the opposite to the background. Would still not help with distracted (cellphones, etc) drivers though.

You're blinded by prejudice Northern
😩
If you are in a car looking at a bike in your rear view mirror there is no way to see the colour of bike or jacket, all you see is a headlight.
Might as well pick the colour you like which should always be Black 👍

I agree with you on this, Red - from front side, color of the bike does not matter. But side is also important. And having some more visibility is better then having less...
Also - I was never thinking what using hi vis gear or bike will made riding totally safe from other road users. Possible, it will make riding little bit (tiny bit) safer. This is my position.
And, as I write earlier - I do not like black bikes. Sorry
That's enough of this sensible discussion
The poll has stated that everyone should have a B&W bike as it's the best, and there should not be any other colour choice for you rebels :stir: :whistling: :happy1:

In the end, it does not matter, what color is the bike - feeling, it bring up in us, are. And those feelings are positive, so everything is perfect :)
NO, NO NOTHING IS PERFECT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel VERY discriminated against my silvery taste. It could have been lots worse as my previous 14 was of BEAUTIFUL blue color. How dare nobody voted for that :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

Multiple votes? What's the point? There can only be ONE "BEST" colour!
Hint: Despite the ridiculous results of said poll, the answer is black. We must have a lot of owners on this forum with no idea how to work a poll properly...
no idea at all Vlad. black 14 are just stunning, i love them. my blue n white also looked stunning tonight, quick trip home, parked in shed, had a 2 minute look. was thinking just how good are these bikes. amazing machines, colour doesnt worry me.

There are also different blues in the various blue/white schemes and different silvers (ok grey K4 or even better primer :rofl2: )
Didn't know that they used different blues in 2002. The paint code in the forum says "YC2 Candy Grand Blue" for the K2 and "1LF Pearl Deep Blue" for the K3.

My advice to anyone is that if they don't do that with a bike they own - sell it.

Mine was a one off from a breakers, I was just making the point that if you search on 'Suzuki badge' rather than say tank or bike there may be a few more options, the one I bought is off an ignis car but is the right size and there was 2 of them.
