Do I win anything for "elevation" on a GSX1400?

Only if it was on the back wheel at the time :stir:
What's the 'ft' bit Pete? Isn't distance & height measured in Meters in the modern world? Thought only Yanks used the old measures.
You & the bike would be starving for air up that high yeah? Did it run any different?
We still use feet on the right way up side of the world :stir:
Pounds & Ounces too? Thought you were metric when you went to EU.
No not for us that French metric stuff unless your under 40 I think they do metric in schools thesedays but normal folk use imperial as it reminds us we used to have an empire that was the pink bit on the globe.
In Scotland we use "nats" and "a bawhair" for the finer measurements

I should explain (although one or two others have got in first).
As a child of the sixties and seventies I was at school when metrication was introduced in Britain, I therefore sit on the barbed wire fence of indecision.
I
think in feet and inches, but I
work in metric.
For example, the idea of a six foot blonde appeals to me. I would have to stop and think about a 1.83m blonde (but only briefly).
I can work out the cross sectional area of 9mm x 9mm timber in my head but if I needed to know the cross sectional area of 3/8" x 3/8" timber I would pretend I was busy and give it the office junior to do.
The image above is from the notorious Gramin Zumo and I never really know what that is thinking, although I believe that it will display units in Modern if you poke the right buttons.
It's all going to be irrelevant soon though, Brexit is coming and we will soon be measuring in Chains and Furlongs, paying each other in Groats and having blue passports which we will not be able to use without a visa. (Ooops, a bit of politics creeping in now so I had better go)....

I'm comfortable with both systems, bearing in mind in the UK it's pretty much necessary. Road distances and speed limits are still marked in miles, we know our weight in stones, our height in feet and inches and we drink pints.
To be fair, a pint is exactly the right amount of beer to have. With a smaller measure, you'd be going to the bar too often. Any larger and the beer would go stale as you got to the end (and it would be harder to carry a round of drinks).

We have 'pints' here too, however the 'pint' has shrunk over the years. It's no longer 600ml, (or very rarely) it can be anything from 500 to 440ml. We get ripped by buying a 'pint' so most down here buy 'jugs' which is a litre and drink from a '5' or a '7' (150 - 200ml) They can't short change jugs, as everyone know what they look like & are a std size everywhere. A 'pint' on the other hand is in a glass & the size & shape of the said pint varys enormously.
The beer doesn't go stale buying a litre at a time, but then we possibly drink it a bit faster too - being the thirsty bunch we are.
I once ran out of petrol on a gsxr750 i had with the misses on the back in the pissing rain we left the bike in a farm gateway and walked a couple of miles to a small village where we found an old school petrol station where i asked to borrow a can . I.ll leave the misses as a deposit sez i . He looked her up and down and said dose she make tea ohh yes sez i . Good kettles in the back the look her face was priceless

Double that only on the dirt bike though!
I've lost the receipt but I got 22.09ltrs in my 14 the other week & it hadn't cut out. Not bad in a 22ltr tank I thought...

Top of the Stelvio 9,045ft. My ex rode her 14 up there too & we went up the side with all the hairpins.

More like a 24 liter tank if you fill up to the little hole. There is a thread here how do that quicker than me (haven't done that mod). My last filling was 21.67 liters (at 1.629 € a liter  ) after logging 429 km. Best so far for me. No 2nd blinking of the fuel gauge, figure I had another 40 km left in the tank.
Ive not done the mod, I still shake the bike.

Mmmm I wonder who the retard member was that started that Tank mod thread ??
In case any newer members were wondering..
Twas I !
Done it to 6 or 7 of my previous bikes..
First got the idea on an older BMW GS1200.
In fact last week I re modded my mod..
I got a piece of 8mm rod and tapered one end. Then with "percussive adjustment" I enlarged the original modded hole to 8mm..
I can pretty much fill up to the brim at full speed now !!
Photo of the original mod below in case any newer members are wondering what we are on about...
Any of you who plan to do this REMEMBER to make the hole on the right side (as you sit on the bike) of the filler neck.. That will then mean the enlarged hole is at the highest point when on the side stand.
I repeat what I said in my original guide on this mod..
I only fill to the brim when I am about to go off on a decent ride..
I do not fill to the brim then leave the bike in the sun!!!
But as I originally said.. With the mod we now have the choice !

The tiny breather hole is tight up under the rim and not that easy to see or enlarge.
I put a slight bend in a sharp 6" nail to enlarge it, then belted it with my biggest philips screw driver.
Tony do Phillips drivers make better hammers than flat head? :)
It's best to use Phillips as if you break them you put then back in Phillip's toolbox & deny all knowledge.
I like this idea as filling up is a pain [those last two inches make all the difference yes :whistling: ]
Can someone clarify though; is this mod broadening the diameter of the breather hole or as I think I read further up in the post is this creating a new hole on the RHS ??
Nope not a new hole, just opening up the pin hole that's there. Use a Philips screwdriver - easy.
Cool, thanks :salute:
Gegs, one of those tricks that do make life easier. Ive put just over 23 litres one fill.
I personally reckon our tank (with this mod done) hold just on 26L. Gonna prove it one day, empty the tank n go fill a jerry can with 23L & a sml one with 3L. I've done 20 L as soon as the fuel indicator starts flashing, & according to the book, there's 6L left at that stage.
Col, if youre correct, thats 470ks on a tank on mine. Have clicked 400 just once. 250 miles.
