:jack: GHowdy gang, anyone have heated grips fitted? tis getting a bit cold in Tasmania now! I have never had heated grips fitted to a motorcycle and wondering if they are worth the money. Does anyone have a preferred choice of make?
We are planning a trip to Darwin & return (about 10000km) late July & all August, so the first few mornings and last few mornings will be pretty cold. I thought about putting bark busters on like I had on the Vstrom, but realise I would be bastardising a retro bike, I think the subtle inclusion of heated grips will be acceptable. What ya reckon :notworthy:
Heated grips are great but my friend had charging issues running both heated grips and additional lights.
Another problem is which gloves to wear. Summer gloves are great but let too much cold air through after a certain temperature. Winter gloves are good but being insulated the have trouble heating up with the cold air cooling them down. I recommend fitting the bark busters to keep the wind chill of your gloves, allowing the heating elements to do their job better.

I have the Oxford Heated Premium Hot Grips - Sport on my bike and really feel the benefit. I have fairly poor circulation in my hands and struggle a bit with them in the cold but I find these make a big difference. I personally don't like thick gloves as I find I lose some of the dexterity and feel with them. I don't as yet have knuckle guards installed and as mentioned by Batkwaka, on those days where the wind is particularly cold the effectiveness of the grips is reduced. They're still far better than without, but the guards are something I am considering for the future. I would think people with decent circulation could probably manage without the guards for typical use, but for a 10k trip I think you'd notice the benefit.
Have both Oxford Heated Grips and Bark Buster handguards.
Like having the heated grips. Built them up a bit with a tennis racquet grip to make them bigger. Suffer with cramp sometimes and a bit of numbness on occasions (carpel tunnel)
The grips warm through to the gloves no problem. They are great if you are cold and its raining. Even when your gloves are soaked at least you have warm hands.
Bark Buster handguards are ok for keeping much of the wind off, but others on here prefer to use factory DL1000 guards and swear by them.
Heated grips were never any good for me - I ended up getting heated gloves instead.
Now had them for about 10 years and they've been the best bit of kit I've ever bought
Have on my 14.
Had some unknown brand (for me) when I get my bike, but throttle side grip wire broke (because of continues bending), and just few weeks ago, I replace them with Oxford grips. Hope, they last longer.
Heated grips are good, but using them I have strange feelings, when my hands are warm from palm side, and cold from outside at the same time :) . For more comfortable riding, I would also like to have also hand guards.
But for sure, having heated grips in cold is better then not having them :cool:

Had a coldish ride today and have decided not to get heated grips, why? because it is not that much of an effort to dop my hand down the engine for a couple of min if it gets too cold - worked a treat today. However I will need to get a throttle lock for the power hand!
It's fast approaching our big escape to Darwin from the Tassie winter and I would only be using the heated grips for a couple of days, so I think money would be better spent on a throttle lock (see new thread I started about that) We will be doing 1000o+km in the six weeks away and a throttle lock will be worth it's weight in gold I reckon.

Agree, I'd definitely be getting one fitted up for a trip like that.

They're got and hot but only last about a year. Either the cable breaks where it goes into the throttle grip or one of the elements fails.
I've now got some RST Thermotech heated gloves. Warn them once and they seem ok. Next winters riding however will be the real test for them.

far better than oxford or datatool and nice discreet control button built in left grip.
i have Oxford intelligent grips on all 3 bikes great as they go off if left on when the bike is off.
also loads of heat settings . :cheers:
Those Apollos look the goods.
I have Oxfords, work a treat, when they have fucked up Oxford have replaced them free of charge.
Great piece of kit.
They make a massive difference.
Would be the first mod I'd make to any bike.
Don't ride in the cold seems to work for me !! Lol :smile2:
