Don't get excited my Nipples have no Tassels !! Just cleaned my front callipers following Barmys great write up and being a plonker one piston popped out. So gonna bleed the system which I have never done before and bought a vacuum system - Guess its a good time to put my new pro bolt stainless nipples on but a bit worried about getting the old ones off - are they difficult? :bugga:
Nope, loosen them off and just unscrew them - but have the new ones to hand to screw straight back in, else you lose too much fluid. Worth also just surrounding the base of the brake nipple with cloth to catch any fluid which seeps out.
Just make sure when you nip the nipples up not to go too mad else you could damage the seats (don't worry too much, it takes a lot to damage them, but some have really haule don the nipple in the past and there is no need to) - they literally just need nipping up, not overtightening. I found the "right" pressure was, if you have an 8mm ring on the nipple, tighten using your little finger and the torque is just about spot on.
Just remember to keep a watch on the fluid level in the master cylinder as you pump it, and remember also that you hold the brake lever in when you tighten the nipple up. Any problems - well you know where I am!
A tip when opening up clutch and brake lines. Tie a cable tie around the grip/handle so that the handle is pulled 3-4 mm. This closes off the filling bore on the master cylinder and prevents fluid from running out. Now you can take all the time you want.
Thx Andre, good tip.
Not sure if this is off topic :rofl2: :rofl2:
Picture removed, sorry guys
We have ladies who access this site, also we are a public forum. Whilst I appreciate it was only a bit of fun, Vladtepes's rules are clear.
It sure does, double d assistance.
Can you believe she's had a reduction Col :rofl2: :rofl2:
Barmy will you offer a hand to loosen these LOL
They appear to be fairly 'loose & free' as it is Chris.
@gsxbarmy thank you for enforcing
@VladTepes rules. :onya: Which btw are very reasonable imo.
As a born hypocrite I like it clean here and for dirty I go somewhere else.

Notty - gonna resurrect this thread.
Did you get the nipples off pro-Bolt? Just had a look on their website. Only do rear bleed nipples.
C'mon I'm gonna ask the obvious question now. Do they fit the front callipers too...?
Thanks.

They are different sizes front and rear on the 14 I think - and they did sell both but as you say front are not listed on their web site - drop them an email? :smile2:
Will do - thanks. :clapping:
Nothing. Just contacted Pro Bolt. Rear is different to the front. I'll just clean the ones I have up. After all 50% is hidden by the cover!

Clean until shiny with a rotary wire brush and then once you've bled the system make sure all excess brake fluid is wiped off and give them a coat of clear nail varnish...Works a treat and they'll stay shiny ;)
OK Froudy...I'm intrigued to know why you chose to use nail varnish....something you want to tell us? :happy1:
Strange Probolt have stopped listing the nipples for the front.
Anyway if you want to get some they are M7 (rear are M8)
EDIT: Adjusted to right way around

I'm admitting nothing :rofl2: :rofl2:
Seriously though, I use it because it dries quickly on bolts etc and does the job ;)

To be honest I never thought of using nail varnish.. Believe it or not I do use nail varnish for tying flies (the fishing variety before anyone jumps in and asks why Im tying up flies!!). Trout are sharp toothed little buggers, so I use Sally Hansen 'hard as nails' to coat some of the things I tie...works really well. If it can stand up to constant immersion in water and a trouts teeth its gotta be good to use on nipples....erm.... you know what I mean
