This doesn't help getting me motivated to shovel snow :frustrated:

Well, the bike is booked in for a service this Friday, in advance of the MCR trip.  :)

December 2018:  Front suspension is a 2 stage standard spring. More open i.e. softer only about 1-2cm long.
Steel spacers used about one inch long each side.
Springs are definitely not progressive.
Bushes were worn, REPLACED.

Update.  YOSHIMURA Stage 1 Cams

With a big thank you to @Teufel my 1400 is now fitted with Yoshi cams.

The only (temporary) downside is that they have to bed in before I really test them.
100km not more tyhan 4,000 revs
100 km not more than 5,000 revs.
100kms not more than 6,000 reves

Then. party time.

I managed to knock off most of that first 100 on the way back from Teufel's place, and clicked over the 100 today.
(Luckily mostly highway riding so not hard to saty under the 4,000)

Now I just have to stop myself getting too enthusiastic when acccelerating away from lights etc, keep it under 5K for a while.

Hmm up to 170kms so far. The ride home today will knock most of that off. Perhaps tomorrow I'll be able to wind her out to 6K.  :)

Keeping en eye on my fuel un-economy.

Last measure I can find pre-Yoshi cams = 6.51 litres/100kms

Last few measures I've taken (post Yoshi cams) based on mostly commuting and mostly not speeding.

7.62 l/100
7.42 l/100

Not too flash....

38 - 39mpg?   That's a bit thirsty.  Ya not running everywhere in 3rd are ya?  I reckon you should be around 5.5 - 6L/100 (47 - 51mpg in old money)

I have been in third a bit, yeah, easier in urban traffic.

The figures you quote are what I was getting before fitting the Yoshi cams.

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

VladTepes

Oh its more out of interest to me than concern :)

Monitoring MPG is a good way to know if your bike isn't running right.

OK front brakes time.

The brakes were getting quite spongy with a tad too much lever travel before anything happened.

I couldn't see any brake fluid through the reservoir glass but as the fluid is (was) yellow I wasn't sure if it was full or empty. :confused1:

So the other night I went to remove the lid and promptly stripped the head of one of the screws.  :furious:

This morning I went to buy a new screw - the local bolt shop didn't have one, so I resorted to Team Homo Moto, the local ripoff dealer.

Took the fuckers 25 minutes to acknowledge me, find the part and get back to me.
And they had the temerity to charge $2.53 for one tiny little screw. I got screwed there alright.

Didn't have much option though as wanted to fix it and bleed it tonight.

After work I headed to Bunnings and grabbed some 5mm hose which is just right for the nipples.  (mmmm, nipples  )

So I got to work. I used a drill (thanks to suggestions in another thread) to carefully remove the head of the screw without damaging the lid. Here's my drill, lid parts and the (good side) removed screw.

Now let's look at what's to see with the 'cylinder' itself.

As you can see there's plenty of exposed thread, and I was able to remove that by starting to turn it with pliers and then just wind it out by hand.

Looking at a different angle and we can see the answer to the full or empty question!

Amazingly there was just enough in there that
1. The brakes still worked, and
2. No air had got into the lines at all.

I proceeded to bleed the system first L then R sides.
And that job having been done it's full (to the correct level) of nice new blue Dot 4 this time - be easier to see in the sight glass.

Interestingly there is still quite a bit of lever travel - a bit less perhaps than before - but as the brakes take up it does seem to offer more resistance than previously.
Perhaps its time for new pads too.

I'll give them a good hard application check or three when I start my commute tomorrow morning.

Anyway that's a job done !

GSXKING

Do you have standard brake lines or Braided Vlad ?

Master cylinder may need a refurb if lever is spongy  :onya:
