Title: Rattle noise
Post by: Losiu on Monday, 13 May 2019, 11:07 PM
Hi,
I have problem with my 14.
When I'm speeding up, between 3000-4000rpm I hear the rattling on the right side of the engine. Not very loud. Maybe I'm panic and it's supposed to be like that.

I've checked:
Cam chain
Exhaust
Clutch
Valve clearance
All screws

Everything looks good.

I have a original exhaust.

Do you have any ideas?

Nice first post
It's normal to go to the bar and introduce yourself.

Now on to your problem
Give us more info
Mileage of the bike .
What model ? as early twinpipe models have covers on the collector.
Do you have an aftermarket oilcooler cover (mine vibrates at certain revs I need to Lorem and refit from time to time )
Exhaust joints as where the downpipes meet the head (be careful as these snap easy) and where the downpipes meets the collector can be lose (I'd look at the collector contections first)
Have the clocks ever been repaired.
Has the headlight been fitted properly .
Check the horns .
Hope you find the problem
Good luck

Sorry for no introduce myself.
My bike has 67000km and was produced in 2002.

I've checked all exhausts, covers and screws. Clocks and headlight are fitted properly.
There is no problem on neutral, only with strong acceleration.

Seth, I'm from Poland ;)
In my country GSX1400 it is not a very popular bike. I hope it's nothing serious.

I had noise problem, something like rattling between 2500 and 3000 rpm. One wiring loom connector was in some weird position and touching headlight shell from inside causing noise. I put thin foam between shell and conentors, problem solved!

Can it be that you have a leaking exhaust pipe?

Like a leak exhaust gasket or even a loose clamp near the collector?

Or a small hole in the exhaust pipe?

Injectors can be noisy too.

Possibly the internal baffle in your exhaust, or main stand a tad loose & hitting things.  Under the tank there are rubber buffers on the frame, are they still in place?

Do you still have the original collector on the bike? It may be worth just checking that the chrome cover plates on the collector are still tightly bolted on.

Another way of checking I've found in the past is to put the bike on the mainstand and just rev it very gently up (whilst in neutral) through the rev range where it makes the rattle, as sometimes that can help pinpoint it

I've checked all exhaust again. I found broken gasket near the collector and something like smoke leak on the pipe. I will order a new gasket and let you know. I think this is my problem.

Thank you for your answers!
