Quote from: grog on Tuesday, 12 December  2023, 06:23 PMWell done, you pair👍👍👍If i have those troubles, I'll just replace sensors, TPS, and STPS.
final wrap on this STP sensor issue, I rode over 250km this week over a range of rpms; low-speed city traffic, highway and byways, hard acceleration, and roll-ons. No FI light, no stumbles or hesitation, and no issues with snatchy throttle at low speeds. Also, fuel consumption is back to normal. I call that a good result.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

i finally got my HD back today & did the obvious thing once home of taking it apart..

As collected.

Once home I fixed the cockup by the dealer who'd fitted the shift rod to the wrong side of the lever. It's pretty obvious this is wrong from the angle of it.

Up on the ramp with the new air filter fitted.

Don't need all of this....

Finished, waiting on the paint drying on the trimmed down can. I've also reloaded the map on it which allows me to reset all the fuel adaptions so it relearns for how it's breathing now.

No I didn't put a cut down baffle back in the can. I was going too, but found out that despite what the owners groups say these do have cats in the downpipes as well as the can. I tried it with no can fitted & I don't think it was any louder than with the complete can on, so I'll see what this sounds like. I can see it eventually getting a full system or the cats cut out though.

I heard the bike take a big sigh of relief (yes, all the way over the channel to Germoney), when she realized that she is being taken out of the claws of the "specialists" to her home.

Typical stealership using apprentices to work on bikes and charge tradesman prices and still stuff it up.

Well it rode fine on the test run yesterday. Still too quiet though, turns out it's as quiet with no can on at all because of the cats in the headers. So now I'm going to get more maps from Dynojet (I've downloaded them but they won't show up in the software) pick one for cat free running & find a way to remove the cats. Either smash them out as I can see them, or get a mate who can weld to cut them open & scrape the cats out then weld it up again.

Hooli

I got an email back from Dynojet with a map to use, so looks like I've got a friday project. As long as I can get the cats out without cutting the pipes, otherwise I'll have to ask someone who can weld to be able to put it back together afterwards.

Hooli

I also need to poke my 14 as the scotoiler seems to have stopped even though it's full. That shouldn't take long.

My second set of chinese dl-1000 handguards turned up today. It was cheaper to buy another set with the fitting bits than order the fitting bits separately. I shall try to get them fitted this weekend, amongst other jobs.

I see this thread hasn't progressed much...

I did fit the handguards the evening they arrived and it was pretty straight forward bar a few minor points. The main one being that because I've got Renthals the ID of the bars is smaller than standard Suzuki ones so the barends didn't fit. Some offcuts of fuel pipe & smaller washers sorted that. The only other thing to take note of is the replacement lever pivot bolts arent a matching pair, the one with the longer 'nut section' on top is for the clutch side. I had to trim the grips too as the new barends are thicker than the renthal ones, but that was to be expected.

The difference in size of pipe I used compared to the rubbers that came with the barends.

The new & old throttle side lever pivot bolt, along with the extras to fit the handguard to the new one.

Fitted.

The barends are huge (about 3" a side) so the bike is now 34" wide! I'll have to remember that when filtering. They really don't need to be that big so it must be a styling choice on the V-Strom.

I've not tried them out yet as I came down with flu before xmas & haven't done much since.

Hooli

The following day I made my HD sound like a proper HD. I'm amazed engines can breathe through cats, the damn things are almost solid & take forever to get out.

First thing I did was take the expensive downpipes off & cut some slots in them.

PXL_20231222_142508793.jpg

Then drill & smash the cats out, which took sodding ages and produced an amazing amount of ash from what I think of as a pretty new bike.

PXL_20231222_151328718.jpg

Which left nice empty pipes eventually.

PXL_20231222_154017064.jpg

Because I can't weld, I then sealed the flaps down with exhaust paste & made some plates to fit over the top. The plates are sealed with more paste & clamped with clamps, so it's all gas tight & not going anywhere. Once refitted it's all behind the heatshields so you have to look to notice it.

I remapped the bike with a map supplied by Dynojet, but I think I'll get it on a Dyno next year. Partly for peace of mind but also so it's running as well as it can and I'm nosy for power figures. With the cut-down can I did the other day (still has a cutdown baffle in) it now sounds quite good. Not the full on potato potato as it's a 2-into-1 system, but it's plenty good enough for me. Throttle response is massively improved, it doesn't get hot nearly as quick at idle & there is so much more mid-range power it actually surprised me on the test run.

I had something like that previously, but the ones I had were too small & only kept some of the wind off. I've tried the new ones out today & my hands were totally protected from the wind, lovely.
