For no good reason, I would love to own a TL1000R.
Sadly, I certainly can't afford one at the moment. Perhaps one day.
Would be interested to hear opinions of people who do, or have, owned or ridden these.
Cheers
That'll be Mr Nitrous then Mike . . .
It is OK bike, but it has lubricating problems on long balanced wheelies (bomber use). No problems on normal use.

I thought Tony was a firm inline-4 guy.
I'm fairly sure Tony has had dealings with the TL1000 & it's mate the TR (I think it's called)
i really like those v twin 1000. know nothing at all about them. sure sound unreal. sometimes i catch up to bloke on a yellow one. it has every trick bit you can imagine. very lumpy at idle, much more than stock one. even has brembo calipers. hes a non talker, ive tried. his ride to work, hes dressed in about 4 g of riding gear. dainese full leathers, shark hat, best boots etc. ive often thought , id like to see him get up it. problem is, he rides so slow, a snail would pass him. ive tried 3 or 4 times to see it go, just sat behind him. he never does, i get bored and away i go. he needs a postie bike and should give his bike to me. i wish i knew his reason, bugs me. fastest bike, slowest rider. everyones choice i guess.
A few mates have had / still have TL's. I prefer the TLS to the TLR.
Des (Suzukifreak) who's on some GSX1400 sites and pages sold a beautiful TLS a while back.
My mates don't do standard / sensible.

I am a TL fanatic. I love my TLR and can't speak highly enough about the Vtwin but have spent way to much money on her.....
Lovely bike Macon.
That spondon frame is interesting Tony.
I previously owned a TLS and whilst the power delivery and ride was quite good. I had issues with water pump twice replaced under warranty. The killer tough was the rear shock damper clapped out and it was a major expense. I fixed it $$$$$. Then traded it asap on an Aprilia RSV Mille' the first version.

Same motor in the V Strom I believe.
I knew a bloke who had a TL for while, he liked it
but traded it for a K1200S as his wife was not
comfortable on the TL.

The 650 and 1000cc Suzuki V-twins have been used in several bikes by Suzuki and also Kawasaki and Cagiva etc.
Although a similar design the SV1000 / DL1000 (V-Strom) / KLV1000 / Raptor are quite tame compared to the TL's.
I think only the Bimota SB8K used the same spec engine.
Ahh, ok, always happy to learn.
Thanks Tony - your wealth of Suzuki knowledge is not restricted to inline 4's then !
I do like TL's and wouldn't rule one out in the future.
Just spotted a pic of a TLS that's pretty interesting....

That's a sweet bike.
I like also......good looking motorcycle.
Yep, looks good, but my back, wrists & butt are complaining just looking at it!

Revisiting this thread... and drooling over your bike
@Macon . I'd love to see it 'in the flesh' someday :)
That colour scheme is just perfect. Blue/White is the only decent looking colour scheme for those I reckon.
Pricewise though I'm not sure why 1998/00 TL100R costs around $8500+ (bikepoint link (https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/suzuki/tl1000r/?sort=Premium))
whereas the same money (or less) can buy a lower kilometres 2008 (K7) GSX1400. bikepoint link (https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/suzuki/gsx1400/)
The TL's are great but are they worth that kind of money?
Just saw this photo on the net too - I really like this paint scheme

Revisiting this thread... , yet again.
Still can't afford one, but want one more than ever....

Buy Tony's Busa or King!
No.
I had a TL1000 s a 2001 what a great bike it was i then sold it and bought the TL1000 r version and i didn't like it much ! ... better handling but not as comfy as the S version or as nice looking and the S had more sole .
I had TLS for 5 years. Great bike! Lot of torque, wheelie machine.
I like the look of the fairing off the TLR. Just "of it's time". Plus it's a 'superbike' right ! :D Sasy so right there on the side...
Bought ny first tl1000s in 1997. OMG what a blast.
Probebly the bike i have loved the most ever. Look, Sound, Funfactor!!
Drove mine 70.000km before i sold it, used it trackdays also, great fun
Tlr is a bit heavier and feels, bigger, not the same Funfactor. Even if it has more bak.
Just me
Can't afford either ATM but when I win lotto I'll buy both :)

What about the SV1000 ?
What are those like? They are the successor but are not generally more expensive for some reason (looking at bikesales site anyway)

They aren't a bad bike, but they are a lot tamer than their TL big brothers.
Personaly, I'd love a TLS, I'd think about a cheap TLR, I wouldn't bother with an SV.
SV 1000 is a physically small bike, not much bigger than the 650.
I had first edition TLS great bike fantastic allrounder a lot like GSX1400. Rear shock shit itself cost $$$$$. Loved the sound and the bottom end grunt. Phillip Island and back with tank bag to lean on. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
I saw this at the classic races in Spa, completely restored TL1000S, just as good as it rolled out of the factory. Only thing I noticed is that the wheels should be dull gold? Maybe someone correct me on this.

Maybe I should try a Super Sport again, this time with a big comfy tank bag to lean on
